:culpability:

I bought my first watch from Ryan and it was really a pleasurable experience. He has really amazing customer service. I haven't brought this up with him yet because I'm hoping it's something I can fix on my own.

Today I was checking out my watch and I noticed I could see "teeth" near the bezel. I pushed it back down and it stayed for a moment, but doesn't stay any longer when I push it down. I tried to avoid playing with the bezel as much as possible, remembering members said it was sloppy.

Anyway, has anyone else hit this issue? Any advice from the pros? It's only on the one side that it seems to be sticking up.

Hi I also had this problem. But it is possible to fix. The construction is a steel washer pushed up by 4 springs around under the bezel. On one of this springs has a click "catch" part installed to provide clicks and one direction turning and this tip goes thought a hole in the washer. Problem is that one spring is to strong and push the bezel up in the area showed in your pic. If the bezel is removed the spring can be pressed together or changed. I changed mine with springs from a normal lighter that I cut in the right length. After that I put a small amount grease on the small teeth inside (on like 10 out of the 60 teeth) and I also very carefully made little sharper bends on the retainer spring that's the wire hexagon shaped spring that holds the bezel to the case. Sharper bends only very very small adjustments means a tighter fit when the bezel is pushed back. If everything is done right the bezel will look and operate perfect.

best luck
regards

awesome response, thanks for being so quick... you wouldn't happen to have any pictures of any part of that process would you? I've never taken apart a watch and if I think about it, haven't seen too many pictures of that in general for the black bay

p.s. if I understand correctly, you used the spring from like a bic lighter?

I don't have pictures from the Black Bay but I did the same mod on my Pelagos today. It's about the same construction with the 4 springs and washer with a hole for the click catch. Only difference between the Pelagos and the Black Bay is the holding spring where the Black Bay uses a normal spring and the Pelagos use a Teflon/nylon gasket that presses it in place. Actually the genuine is constructed so also. Quite bad engineering as the gasket will be brittle over time and fall off when the gasket breaks. Little OT but you shouldn't worry the rep Black Bay won't have this issue.

And yes a standard Bic lighter or more exactly 4 Bic lighters was used.

Be sure to protect the case with some tape to avoid scratches and use a tool like this to remove the bezel.
put it over the bezel and hold a tight grip with your hand then turn the bezel slowly and pull.

The knife can also be used but with more care. And the case need to be protected good to avoid scratches. Also with a knife all pressure comes on one spot and in worst case can the bezel bend a little. So it's safer with som sort of rubber gripping tool.

I saw a guide here on RWI where some one made their own bezel tool from an ice hockey puck but I can't find it.

Test to press the existing springs together first. And measure them without any tension with a caliper before and after you pressed them together. If they are like 0.25-0.50 mm shorter after you should be good to go. See the lighter mod as an insurance as those tiny springs sometimes fly wild while pressed together. :)

hey everyone I found a temporary fix that makes me feel a little better

push the bezel down while turning it and if you're lucky it will stay put. mine has stayed down well enough for me to feel a little better about this issue!

thanks to all who offered replies especially santre, i still hope to make this mod

Okay so my Pelagos was having the exact same problem the OP was and my bezel decided to come off. Of course I lost one of the tiny mini-springs [emoji23]

I bought a Bic lighter (as mentioned above) and the spring is much wider than the Tudor ones. I tried to make it fit, but just couldn't with the tools I have. Anyone have any ideas how to get my bezel back on? I'm willing to ship it to an experienced watch smith. Wish I could order the exact spring form somewhere or any springs that fit. This is very annoying [emoji57] Just want to wear my Pelagos...

Bic has two sizes of lighters, regular and small. If you tried regular, maybe try a small? Just my 2¢ until a knowing member responds

well the mini-Bic springs were too big as well. going to have to send this back to Toro (which will take forever) unless anyone in ConUS can fix my watch. Anyone know a guru that can fix it??
