The Ploprof is already extremely well lumed straight from the factory!!!
Here's my V1.5:
IMG_0002.jpg

And it glows all night still, even though it's over a year old....:maty::maty:

The problem with the V2 bezel is that the lume is applied on the metal under the saphire ring that makes a gap where dust and textile fibers can get stuck between if you use it every day.
The V1.5 have the lume applied directly on the crystal ring and does not have this problem.

This is a macro of my bezel and i think the problem is clear.

And cause im crazy enougth to buy the gen mesh for more than twice of the rep cost i can buy more than one little bottle of lume to make sure it will cover the whole bezel :lol1:

So the solution is just to give your V2 a relume?

Any mechanical ETA movements with this function for replacement?

My Ultimate version from Angus is still rocking! This watch doesn't get any time off the wrist :)

Have to visit Domi one weekend for the relume tho.

I have a V1.5. I've had the V2. I prefer the V1.5

Why?

Because I love that the bezel is bi-directional. Everything else is spot on. Turning the bezel by using the push button is a pain in the ass. Especially for someone like me who's missing two finger tips (eeeeeeeew). If someone asks to see it, I won't tell them they're wrong if they assume it's a gen (especially once I replace the dial with a gen), but I will explain that the reason it's bi-directional is that I asked my watchsmith to dis-engage it. :)

Hey, it's just a little white lie. :p

Oooooooooooooooooooooooo be careful in that shark cage Greg! That's soooooo scary! Feeding a shark.... from inside a shark cage.

Nice watch though. :)

I stole this...

There are some really nice reviews of this great watch already--if you're looking for high-standards in photography and prose I suggest you look elsewhere--as I attempt to rule mediocrity--and even this is a rare feat for me. Lame jokes aside, I'm going to try to more or less just compare the PloProf with my other watches. This is a very unique timepiece--whether you are on the love-it or hate-it crowd--there is no mistaking any other watch for the PloProf. Let's look at the obligatory specs:

DSCN2975.JPG

· Crystal
Scratch-resistant sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment on both sides
· Case
Steel
· Dial
Black
· Water resistance
1200 m (4000 feet)
· Size
Gents
Diameter: 55 x 48 mm
·Lugs 24mm
·Thick, thick mesh with massively built clasp.

Alright, first of all let's take care of the DIAMATER first. 55mm?? Well, if you measure the watch horizontally it barely makes this measurement counting the crown protection mechanism. (For example, a 55mm Laco Buhr Pilot is a much bigger watch--and it's probably unwearable for the normal wristed) The dial itself is only about 30mm.
DSCN2981.JPG

It is a beautiful dial, with applied markers and well disguised date window (can't even see it from this angle). It is one of the strongest parts of this piece.

Here's a pic of the date--most of the times I don't notice it's there:
DSCN3005.JPG

Next the bezel (from a stock pic):

baselworld-2009-omega-ploprof-re-release-6.jpg

The bezel is about 5mm tall. The entire bezel is about 7mm wide--but the black part housing the numbers is 5mm. In short--it is a huge bezel. The new Orange button works in conjunction with this bezel:

DSCN2984.JPG

As most of you know, you push this button and the bezel turns. And it turns and clicks like a dream--60 times around. I have no idea if this is practical--I can't do it once the watch is on my wrist--but holding the watch with both hands it is like a bank vault.

========
DSCN2979.JPG

Here's the He button--I don't know if I'll ever meet anyone that has ever put one of these to its proper use. Kind of like finding an astronaut that's actually used a Speedmaster on a space walk. But, we love this stuff don't we?

DSCN2990.JPG

The back of the watch is now where the movement is installed and removed--unlike the incredibly unique and perhaps awkward mono-coque, monoblock, uniblock--or any other name that's been used for a case that is one piece. The new back is surprisingly comfortable--the ridges do not dig into my wrist at all--in fact I think in this respect it's even more comfy than my Speedy Pro.

Now the crown and protective system:
DSCN2982.JPG

Just a gorgeous arrangement. The crown and the block that neatly fits with the case pull out together as you unscrew the crown itself. Panerai, eat you heart out.

The open system: It unscrews and screws back in smoothly and without doubt. If there is one thing most manufacturers can do IMHO is to increase the size of their crowns--this one is an example of one that is easy to grasp and, it is of course, made to feel as if of the highest quality
DSCN2996.JPG

There is the Mesh bracelet and Clasp:
DSCN2995.JPG

I can't imagine this watch without the Mesh--but either way you're getting this fantastic clasp. It is easy to adjust as we see in the following image:

DSCN2987.JPG

There are micro adjustments allowed here. The bracelet will be PERFECT every time on your wrist. I do not have any other watch--on bracelet or strap--that I can adjust to such a fine detail. Most of us need this kind of calibration as the watch is exceedingly heavy--if not fit properly it will begin to rotate or misalign itself on my wrist. I'm sure if you have a muscular wrist this will not be an issue. It is not exactly correct, by the way, to say the bracelet cannot be adjusted once it is on your wrist: it can be gradually made to close, click-by-click, to an ideal circumference. But it cannot be once again widened without pressing the "PUSH" button.

DSCN2989.JPG

the case and mesh appear as one from almost any angle.

DSCN3000.JPG

I did not adjust the bracelet myself--the AD did it for me--and it appears to be held by pins. Screws would be a nice improvement--but I don't know if it possible on Mesh bracelets--and it is a very minor point because of the clasp adjustments. Once the bracelet is properly fitted the micro clicks will take care of the rest--even in the case of minor weight gains or losses.

Diver's extension:
DSCN3001.JPG

Textbook, in both form and function.

On to the LUME: (stock pic--I have never been able to take a lume pic--I'll probably buy a Patek perpetual calendar before I can take one this good--meaning never.)
ploprof7.jpg

The lume on the PloProf is not the best I've ever seen for intensity, or even luminosity, and certainly not longevity. My son's Seiko Fankenmonster took a $1 bet from me (again, it is the strongest lume I know of)--however, and this is a huge point, the Seiko lume has a greenish tint all the time. The lume on the PloProf is absolutely beautiful--a bluish glow when you need it--dial and bezel markers. And when the dial is not activated with sunlight, it is a pure white. This makes the dial absolutely pristine at all times. I would not give this up for a little more lume. I give this dial a 10/10.

Well, that's most of the good news. And, I'm pretty much completely satisfied. However, no watch is perfect--and some things about the entire Omega PloProf package are almost unsavory and sometimes downright unacceptable. First the package that it comes in:

238.JPG

Construction paper--not the nice exterior box of a Panerai for example.

239.JPG

A HUUUGE outer box. Nice enough.

240.JPG

Yes, this big.

241.JPG

Nice looking arrangement. Unfortunately, totally useless and almost worthless. The book can be taken out only with the fingers of a 5-year old. The manual is a complete joke. After the decathlon of pages on warranty gibberish, we finally get started on page 11 with Omega's quartz movements. A bunch of confusing instructions on other calibers--and I can't find a single reference to the PloProf. I think that's I purchased. Then, there are 10 or so languages for this. The manual gets a 1/10.

244.JPG

The piece of paper from Ken Trading on my RXW is more informative. The PloProf needs its own Owner's Manual--dedicated just for this piece--but somebody in Omega is an idiot for thinking this is a great combo--and somebody at Rolex thinks tiny bracelets go with a DeepSea--so in the end, while this is a flaw in Omega's part--you don't have to wear it.

It gets better; here's the neoprene concoction:
245.JPG

Well, it smells good. The zipper is very difficult to open--and even more tiresome to close.

Inside, you can fit the PloProf--that's about it, even though the entire thing has the volume to fit a Cocacola bottle when you first look at it. Notice, no extra anything: no straps, tools--nothing. Yet, Omega prices this at $9K. They can throw in a strap for Pete's sake.
246.JPG

Nothing else can go inside neatly at all. Not even those tags you see, or extra links from the Mesh. Hence, I don't even use this case to hold my PloProf. I kicked out my Tiger Tudor out of its box and placed the PloProf there, basically switched houses--since I only use my Tiger Chrono on days that Tiger doesn't cheat with two women at a time--it sits dormant.

DSCN2956.JPG

Steinhart Nav -- this watch helped me make my decision on either the PloProf or the Big Pilot--the Nav feels bigger (it is beautiful though) to me--yes bigger than the PloProf--just not nearly as heavy.

A few wrist shots:

297.JPG

At the Grand Canyon in early April--about 40 degrees--my hands are turning white (I'm a wimp) and I just tightened the clasp two clicks to adjust for my wrist shrinking a bit. I cannot overstate how nice it is to be able to adjust this bracelet--a couple of hours later we were in a 75 degree pizza restaurant and the watch began to feel tight--so the adjustment was easily made again.

Final thoughts:
The PloProf is a great watch. Perhaps not for everyone--it is such a heavy piece. At first it felt a bit uncomfortable, or overwhelming. But I've gotten used to it. I've worn it almost every day since I got it, and I've not done that with a watch since I got my Submariner 7 years ago. For me this is an absolute keeper. I enjoy every part of the watch--and my son has played with the orange button and bezel--and I don't let him touch my Panerais--but the PloProf just makes you feel like it's indestructible. When the crown is locked back in place--you've just secured the US Mint. And strapping this piece on is the closest feeling I can get to feel like Iron Man. Take care, and enjoy what's on your wrist
