Hi everyone,

A few months ago, I discovered my growing interest in the DSSD models. I've been looking specifically for the Rolex Deepsea Challenge. I came across WBK as a seller, but to be honest, I find their version a bit too simple for my taste — it doesn't quite capture what I'm looking for.

Do you have any trusted sellers you would recommend for a higher-quality DSSD Challenge?

Thanks in advance!
I am not aware if a high end DSC was ever made. Every one I have seen were 2813 versions including my own. I know Stan (@WackoBirdKeeper) in the US sold them years ago but most other versions come from AliExpress or DHgate as far as I am aware.

The versions I have are some NOS (New Old Stock) versions that my supplier found in his warehouse when he cleaned up. Getting these was pure luck. I am also unaware of anyone ever making these in a higher end version.

I'm looking at buying a 126660. I want to get a 2824 version so I can swap a gen ETA into it. My question is if a 2824-2 would fit to gain the instant date change function.

thank! Yes I also find out that WBK is selling one. He send me some pics but I don’t know if I have the right to send them here. I will ask him.

There is no difference in movement thickness or stem height between a 2824 and and a 2824-2 so swapping those movements in the same case is possible.

Some of the DSSD reps were/are fitted with a 2836 though, which is a thicker movement with a taller stem height. In that case you could use a gen 2836 and have the instant date flip.

To round out the discussion, a 2824 can replace a 3135 or 3235. The stem heights are a close enough match. This would require a few extra steps like a new set of hands, a 2824 movement holder, some dial anchoring mods, and a datewheel overlay (DWO) with Rolex fonts. The DW from the 3135/3235 can be used as a DWO on a 2824 with some work.

It is. I mentioned the 2836 because it's not uncommon for TDs (or factories) to mistake which clone ETA version a rep a actually has. With either clone ETA movement a rep you get has, you can swap in a correspnding gen. If you get one with a 2836, it will already have an instant date flip.

Also, I've gotten some A2824s in reps that have a very rapid date flip (like 5 minutes), which makes it tolerable for me at least. You should wait and see which movement you get and how it works before buying a replacement for it. But as good as the true clone 3135/3235s are nowadays, you could just get one of those and expect good longevity from it. Instant date flip OOTB.

I have a few VS/VR reps I wear on weekends. They are okay but seem kinda tinny cranking around in there compared to my gen Rolexes (Rolexi?)

I daily wear a gen 126660 to work in the city - this is being driven about my concern getting mugged. If I did do this I'd want something as close to the real thing which would be an Elabore COSC movement I guess..

So here are the photos from Stan (WBK). They look great! I really like that the crystal isn't too thick on top of the watch — on some models I've seen, the crystal was around 4 mm thick with a sharp edge, which looked wrong. Here, the proportions seem much closer to the real Deepsea Challenge.
For the price, it's honestly a very impressive replica — surprisingly good. But I don't know what's holding me back from buying it...

I always thought I was a leather strap guy, but then I saw the GMT Pepsi and realized I was actually a metal strap guy.
Recently, I found the Deepsea and loved it — but I couldn’t resist going even bigger.
And just to be clear: I have nothing to compensate for...

My personal feelings about this watch is that it's ugly, and I think Rolex lost the plot a little on this one.

Even if I were 6' 4" and had a 20-inch wist, I wouldn't go near it. Monochrome's review almost makes it look good, but to me it's a bunion.

The 136660 JC is my personal preference.

Mate, you need to read back through this thread. The question has been asked and answered several times throughout the last 15-20 pages.

Sure. 15-20 pages and 10 years.

I’m asking about TODAY.

C+ GMF and/or V9 are all cited over the years. C+ being more difficult to obtain due to smaller production runs.

I’ve seen plenty of watches that were produced by Factory A - but that factory is now gone - so Factory B is the new go to.

Just polling people more in-the-know than me for current opinions. If you have advice, why not share it?
