just now I was changing straps on my BR01 Tourbillon.....

....and I dropped one of the little black screws on the carpeted floor..... :roll:

...can i find it?


...CAN I HELL !!! :evil:

I've used all sorts of halogen lamps and tactical flashlights, moved the desk around, swept the floor
with a large magnet - I'm literally doing an inch-by-inch search on the floor, head down and ass in the air.
My wife thinks I've turned religious, every time she sees me, I'm "praying" to the watch cabinet!

What can I do now to find the little pest??? Help!

Keep at it and try to remain optimistic...you'll find it. I've lost a few screws in the carpet throughout the years and have always found them. It just takes time...you will find it.

The last time I dropped a tiny screw in the carpet, I actually had good luck by slapping the carpet with my palm and it jumped up and caught my eye.

i lost a small spring htat goes in the crown on a carpet with teh same color as the spring!

i only eventually found it after hours of searching by just sliding my hands across the carpet till i hit it and felt a small sharp thing.

the magnet is about the size of a VW badge, its from Liberty, NYC!

it has picked up spring bars and paper clips easy enough


maybe the screw isnt steel and the dealer lied to me?! maybe its not a real tourbillon! :lol:

Could it be a replica watch, if it is, it can be a replica screw. If that is you will need a replica magnet

whatever you do, stay calm, be positive. Long deep cleansing breaths, wait and allow the screw to find you...it is closer to you than you think.

I lost a bridge screw once and found it a week later scouring the carpet with a 10x loupe.

Vacuum the floor. Every time I drop a screw, pin, spring, hand or whatever I grab the vacuum, dump the container and then vrrrrrrrrrrrrrr clank clank ding..."Hey, the screw and a link pin and a spring and a raisin.....wait that's not a raisin, damn mice!"

Work like a charm. Another good option that I have been using lately is the swifer carpet thingy that my wife bought.

Don't sweat it too much. I lost a piece of a 2892 a2 movement (search my posts) and after an hour I just ordered it from Borel and was done with it. Order another lug from Silix or who-ever and consider what your time is worth. Let me look in the box-o-goodies and maybe I have a spare and will send it too you so you can get your ass out of the air and back on the couch. Send a pic of what the piece looks like. There are 2 variants.

Eventually the piece did turn up about 3 weeks later. The shiny little gear caught the wifes eye (no surprise) and I found the original ETA part. Go figure.

Pull a pantyhose or some other fine-meshed thingie either on the tip of the vacuum cleaner, or split it somewhere and put it in between. Then just vacuum the floor, and don't turn of the vacuum cleaner until you've checked whatever mesh-thingie you used, or make sure to turn it off while holding it over something safe, like a bowl or whatever.

Then just vacuum the floor, and don't turn of the vacuum cleaner until you've checked whatever mesh-thingie you used, or make sure to turn it off while holding it over something safe, like a bowl or whatever.

This is what I was going to recommend, I've used the same concept with a paper towel over the hose attachment. If your floor is dirty you'll have to keep removing the debris as it will inhibit suction.

Also, expand the area you're searching. I've dropped stuff before and look all over where I thought it fell. A few days later I'd find it a good 3-5 feet from where it was dropped. Little stuff bounces weird sometimes and can end up where you least expect it, even on carpet.
