Not worth buying in gen

Hmm, does that really count? If you say a franken is not worth buying in gen, that feels like cheating.

For me personally, subs wouldn't really go on that list because they need that gen crystal for the black hole.

I agree with the ceramic ones but a non-AR TC crystal is just fine for a 5 digit IMO.

The funny thing is here are members with watches worth 100.000 dollars and they still buy reps because of thiefs and other stuff and most of them are not arrogant and do not care about "uhhhhh I need a gen to feel me rich and better".

So maybe it depends from person to person.

But TC and BK are, in a way, out of box. If so, then probably not worth going gen, due to law of diminishing returns.

I think anything with an obvious visual tell shouldn't be considered a 'super-rep'. The Santos and Ballon-Bleu are solid, directly out of box, and not worth going gen.

The Noob and JF Rolexes are very well-made these days, but if you can spot the bezel (out of box), and you will need a paint mod, then it cannot be considered solid.

This is all basic aesthetic stuff. Once you consider weight, and bracelet construction, it becomes an endless discussion. Partially due to the 904L used in modern gen Rolexes, there's a feeling of heft, coupled with center-ness when you hold them in your hands. It's not just about being heavier. It's almost as if the balance of the weight distribution between the head and bracelet was calculated to a specific ratio. And don't get me started on how gen bracelets feel..

We all have our own reasons for buying watches, for going gen, or for going rep. We all have things that we desire, that might be out of reach at the moment, for whatever practical or idealistic considerations.

Here's my "un-worthy" TC V6 with gen crystal/insert/crown and gen ETA 2824 Elabore movement.

Tried on the 116610 at my AD few times and I just couldn't get past those huge lugs...

And it's not even about who can afford what... If he can afford a gen then good. Wjat floats your boat as they say... I have gens and reps, does that mean i'm better than those with just reps.. Hell no.... Remember there's always someone better... We are all here to admire watches, be it gen or rep. Hopefully now we get back on topic
