One way to overcome the post-honeymoon phase with the Fiddy is to start making Fantasy Fiddies:
Plexi Glass (mildly domed, to emilinate distortion, and be able to appreciate the dial more)
Relumed, refinished rep dial. (C3 lume, matte finish)
Polished, refinished mid-case (to make it shine, and to make it float better)

Cool thing with the plexi! What kind of plexiglass are you using, from 372 or 448?

It was a high-quality plexi from parts supply from a German wholesaler. I forget what manufacturer. The plexi gives an entirely different, flatter view of the beautiful 127 dial. I actually like it better than the anamorphosis of the gen domed sapphire.

nice mods!
if you can get gen crown and ratchet wheels, or polish the beveled edges that will make the movement pop as well.

I haven't gotten round to posting mine and my mods, I was planning to do it once it was all complete!

I am in love with the 127 again. It's been a couple years since Ive had one and I was lucky to make a deal right here on our wonderful forum. When it first arrived, I strapped it on and actually thought that I might not mod it at all and just wear it... its so beautiful as is. That didn't last too long... about 6hrs. Im trying to stop myself from spending too much on this one, but I have a feeling I'm going to be pouring all the Swiss I can into it, down to a chronometer grade balance assembly. It still needs a lot of attention, whether its refinishing or just cleaning, but I love it no matter what. I also have a beautiful custom made Rocco strap on it's way home, hopefully before the end of the weekend.

Enjoy the pics, Im sure there will be plenty more, since I just can't stop looking at this thing

I've only done a few minor things so far... Incabloc mod, longer MM screw and flat headed screws for the crown/ratchet wheels.

Hey what kind of strap do you have on your Fiddy in those first pictures??? I really dig it! Is it a Rocco? I can't find it on their website.

No, the first couple is a strap stamped with "English Strap Company".

Do you know where you got it from or what their website is? A Google search for "English Strap Company" just returns a bunch of strap-makers that happen to be English. lol

I actually do not know. A friend of mine gifted it to me when I said I had just bought a 127 and needed a strap for it. If I remember, Ill take some pics of it tomorrow and see if I can find out the origin.

"English Strap Company" straps were sold by DiStefano for awhile and they may have been a sub brand. They are amazing straps, however they may have been limited edition as I do not believe that they are still available. You could try contacting DiStefano through their website.

Canada, but in Hungary... for now
Here are a couple updated pics. As it sits currently, I think it's done... unless I can think of other stuff I want to do to it. Now, after the movement mods, it has the following:

-Swiss gear train(barrel/mainspring, center wheel, third wheel, second wheel, escape)
-Swiss keyless, setting gears, minute/hour wheel and cannon pinion
-Swiss ratchet and crown wheels
-Incabloc mod
-Longer micrometric screw(actual, not cut and glued)

Looks amazing!

So, I've always wondered; with this many mods, how would one know it's not gen? What tells would a registered Panerai watchsmith look for?

ps - will you adopt me so I can become your apprentice?

To answer your second question, yes I will ;)

To your first question, I actually thought about that today as I was finishing my 113 build. In the wrong hands, it could probably be sold as Gen and most would not know the difference. Since the pics I had posted, Ive added more to the 127 and then duplicated the results to my 113.

Honestly, I think our abilities with reps are becoming dangerously good. Depending on who you are, that can be a good or bad thing.

As of now the two major tells in a 127 rep are the crown tube area, which is shaped differently in gen (thanks polonusTM for the great catch) and, on the movement, the swan neck shape.
Case shape is slightly different as well, but I think it's almost impossible to notice without having both gen and rep on hand.
That said I totally agree with Strodda, these reps are dangerously good, I myself would never consider buying a gen on the internet without consulting you guys :)
