Looking at the strap in the OP's link, I don't think it came from a watch or even a timepiece. Most likely it came from a compass or depth gauge. I'm personally leaning towards depth gauge as you can see the same bend in the lug area found here:

The problem with most of these homage type straps is that the maker does not take into account what it's end fit will be, and thus do not properly shave down the lug areas. This causes the strap to rub against the case (assuming you can even fit it properly to the case to begin with). It's a subtle design flaw that can ruin a great looking strap.

But in your pic, it shows a gen strap that is rubbing against the case. So a homage strap that does that would be true to gen, no?

the gen straps did rub the case more times not. It's kind of the charm of these straps. They are meant to be totally utilitarian and rough, but that's what makes them great.

They were also meant to be worn on the outside of a wetsuit, be under water for a while, etc. As Grimlocktime states they were utilitarian. True to gen, perhaps. But it makes it a pain to mount. If one were going for true 1:1, then yeah skewed stitching by machine with case rub marks, scratches etc would be acceptable. I was speaking more to having the look of a vintage strap and being able to enjoy it, not necessarily a museum piece.

I am very pleasantly amazed with grimlocktime's strap maker, G at Greenstraps. Whereas some of the people I work with take 6 weeks, he made me a strap in 4 days following my exact specification and it looks fantastic. Everything designed to my spec. Look at this beauty. We decided on 5 holes punched at 12mm spacing with centre being my wear hole. The historical strap from 1950s also has 5 holes.

No strap is worth that amount of money. Ridiculous price for a piece of leather. People with obviously more money than sense would go for it. Give me 3200 Euros to spend and I'd buy a gen watch not a bloody strap. Come on guys.

Just ordered my strap from G, thanks Pana. Nice to see another Greek artist in the industry!

Is that tri or bi fold?

The trifold is truer to gen strap making technique. It also adds more structure. But you need a longer length with it. I got 150/90 with a 7.25" wrist. I have it on a 372. It looks great with that watch.
