Hi everyone, first off thanks to all the great threads I read years before actually joining. After a lot of research I wanted a modern diver that could get away with no mods for my first rep.
I went with the great td MR who had it sent out within 10 days, smooth professional transaction which has left a tough path for other td’s to follow since!
Now onto the watch !
Upon on arrival I was really impressed with the overall finish of the watch having worn and held a number of modern Rolex divers, this certainly didn’t feel like a rep. I’ve been wearing it daily for nearly 2 years so thought I’d write a small review.
movement: A2836 : so the movement showed quite a high reading of plus 10secs on the timegraph at qc, over the last 2 years it has held up well with no regulation or service and continues to perform around this Mark. Power reserve is good, generally last 36 hours or more which I’m totally fine with for a near daily wearing watch. The movement actually winds beautifully, very smooth though over the last couple of months has begun to get slightly more ‘gritty’, again very impressed for the price bracket.
Case: The v7 is an excellent rep case wise, and again when I’ve had it next to gens it’s near impossible for the average non wis to pick out such minor discrepancies. I’ve had numerous compliments from hulk and sub owners since receiving the watch.
The case has picked up surface scratches and marks when up close but nothing more than you could expect with daily wear. A polish up would easily remove these.
dial: so the dial is acceptable from arms length but up close the print is a little lack lustre, the markers are very good though and the gloss is surprisingly close to gen, again there are better rep dials our there but on the wrist, it looks great.
. The hands are a little flat, but again they do the job, as you get deeper into reps though they will start to annoy you and will no doubt need to be changed.
bracelet: sturdy and with a solid click from the clasp even after two years daily use it’s still very solid.
insert: the insert needs no introduction for the v7. Grey grey grey, I did the cheap molotow mod which gave it some life but the insert is def the weakest point of the watch for me. With the paint mod though, it looks great and outside of an ad or rep community, no one is able to call it out
overall: So for a daily beater It has held up really well, I did the Molotow paint mod - which holds up but needs to be redone every 3-6 months. I’ll be taking it out of rotation soon in favour of a couple of franken projects that are near completion. But it has been a great watch thus far. I’ve been amazed at how many sub enthusiasts have complimented it. Still going strong and had been well worth the original cost with zero mods bar a paint marker. The zzf that has just been released makes this looks pretty obsolete but to this is still a really fun watch and a highly convincing rep on the wrist imo. Unless your very into watches you won’t be picking out flaws. It feels great on the wrist and in terms of weight and feel, it feels virtually the same to the gens I have worn. The glide lock clasp has been great too
This is might not have been the most technical review but just wanted to give you a feel for how it’s been over the last few years. A solid watch, a joy to wear and has essentially led to me funnelling a lot of cash I used to save towards gens into this amazing hobby.
