My River ETA copy Noob Submariner keeps sticking at 1:40 am but continues to tick away.
I have only worn the watch daily for the past 4 weeks and it stopped a couple nights, but over the last 4 nights it stopped at around 1:40 am every night but the second hand continued ticking.
It keeps perfect time otherwise.
What could be the problem?
Thanks!

I had the same issue. Broken gear was my problem. Bad news is these gears can be hard to source. Take it to a watch guy if you have one in your area.

wonder what would be a good replacement movement for this...?

Wonder if Miyota makes something to fit it.

This may sound too simple but maybe the hour and minute hand and rubbing with each other...just a thought.

Good call Moere than likely the culprit. Either the minute and/or hour hand is not set properly and at that "scycle" of the movement is when they get too close. A possible do -it yourself fix

I was waiting for some more replies before I commented. That is so weird. I susally see this kinf od thing with the 21Js. Not the EtAs. Go figure. doctorron. Yours didn't come from River too did it?

At first it only did it a couple times, then it did it every night for the last 4 nights.

Coincidently, I began to experience this issue the same exact time that I noticed that the date began flipping at 8:00 pm. My theory is that when the min/hr hands stuck the second hand continued ticking and threw off the date synch.

I fixed the early date flipping yesterday by pushing the hour hand from 8:00 pm to 12:00 am. (This watch is not a "quick flip" it takes 90 min to fully flip)

As I mentioned earlier, the watch only has 1 month worth of wear and the only thing I did with it that I was not 100% comfortable was pulling the stem and winding it upon start up.

If it is a gear, what would be the approx cost of such a repair?

Thanks!

It's not cheap I can tell you that. That's why I started buying 21Js. At least for my Subs. I get a at least a year out of them. If they break I toss them and get another.

The Swissanistas are rolling over in their graves as I say this.

I took your advice and e-mailed River. He told me to take off the SS bracelet and mail the time piece back for repair.
Didn't expect that

River was the very first dealer I purchased from a long long time ago on TRC (2002 - 2003) and has been my favorite dealer ever since.
Always a class act! :)

"It's ALIVE!!!!"

Go figure it hasn't stopped since the 12th. After sticking every night for 7 days in a row, it hasn't stopped again since the day River said send it back.

Maybe I won't need to send it back
