I see this question asked often. The most recent was a GMT m2m thread. The person asked if it was a NOOB or a BP. That got me thinking, why ask if its one or the other. I know they have subtle differences. But I think if you can't tell by looking at it, does it really matter which one you buy. If you have a preference you should know the difference and not need to ask. Which brings me back to why ask. I'm not making a judgement on people. Just genuinely curious why people would ask this. Cause me personally if I had a preference I would know what I was looking for and wouldn't need to ask.

I think your probably referring to my post... I literally can't tell unless I have decent photos to go by, and for me the GMT needs to be a BP in order to take a gen bezel assy.. Same as the submariner for me, if its not specified I just like confirmation or a link to show where it came from and what mods I can expect to do or that need doing etc...
So I agree with you but for well mainly only those two watches I 'need' to know or at least get some confirmation before I commit to buying it...

Why NOT ask?
If someone has a question about the subtle differences between rep watches isn't this the appropriate forum to post their questions in?
If some veteran members are frustrated by the questions the solution is easy - don't answer.
I'm sure there are other members who are happy to offer their sage advice.
Your not the first to ask this just the last one I have seen. So there is more then just a visual reason to want one over the other? That's what I was asking was there a reason for asking if you can't tell them apart.

Yeah for me it's literally only the GMT I needed confirmation so I know it can take the Gen assembley... Visually I can tell as long as I have decent photos but yeah no harm no foul

Oh and see now my question was answered that one fits gen movement and the other doesn't. So if you can't tell them apart it is still important for internal reasons. Thanks Jordan

Dave, this has been going on for a long time. People are looking for the "best" version, yet they themselves cannot see the flaws in the watch. They are relying on what others are seeing. I bet you if we handed a GEN , and a NOOB Sub C to 100 random people here, 90% of them would not know which is which. Let alone a BP vs a NOOB. It's just how it goes.
+1, i agree on this. A lot of them does not know the difference but they ask questions like this just because they want the best and or most popular version among members here.
Well see that's what I was thinking but then Jordan made a valid reason for asking can't see the difference but for gen application one works the other doesn't. That makes sense to ask.

It is ok if their question is base on frankening ie which version accept gen parts but more often the question is base on which maker makes the best and most accurate version as compare to gen.
Which I would suggest them to compare it themselves and if there no difference after comparing then the cheaper one will be the best version.

I get what your saying but not quite the same 7k for gen 150 to 500 for rep price difference isn't that much between noob and BP. But you make my question more obvious. If you can't see the difference yourself then why do you need to ask which is which. If one cost 1500 and the other 150 then yeah I wanna know which one your selling me. But if both are around the same price and I can't tell them apart why have a preference. And if I do have a preference then I must have learned the difference and don't need to now ask. But Jordan made a very valid reason for asking. Can't tell from pics but one fits gen parts and the other doesn't so he needed to ask to make sure it was gen compatible.
