I am a big Costco fan and have a kotvof confidence in my purchases. If u was in the market for a Gen, I would consider buying from Costco. I don't know what there return policy is on high end watches, but they aren't the type if company to leave a customer out in the cold... especially one that drops huge money on a watch.

I don't know that Costco is grey market on watches. Those prices were hardly grey market and appwar to be the standars 10-15% discount you might get from most ADs. Amazon does a lot if sales through market place etc., which is different...even on the consignment pieces.

Pilworx, interesting threads. If rough handling was an issue in the past, from what I see these watches and all of the higher end jewelry at my Costco is treated with kid gloves. I wanted look at a strand if $3200 Tahitian pearls for my wife and I had to wait foe a department mananger to have them removed and I was brought to an office in the back where I was given a chance to inspect them within view of a camera and the manager. It was not the usual experience and I was apparently one of the few people that actually for an inspection before purchase...most people buy the item, then inspect it and return it if there is an issue (which is what Costco prefers).

I'm a huge fan of Costco as well, especially because of its return policy as well. It's to a point where you might feel bad about returning something, but they still take it back without a hassle. The biggest thing--at least the one where I go to--is that the line for returns is usually long and the wait time is long. Not as nearly as bad as Walmart, but still longer than other retail stores.

I've never bought a watch from Costco, but have bought some jewelry and have returned one. I can't imagine it would be much different for watches, but honestly, after reading some of people's posts, I would be somewhat hesitant about buying a watch from Costco. Not because of people handling the watch, but because of the switching thingy.

I wonder how Costco handles a returned watch. I'd assume that watch should now then be considered as a used watch, but if they just have it in the display case, people will assume it's new, and I wouldn't want that to happen to me, unless the price reflects that.

Wow, last time I went to the Costco in Westbury all they had was some Bulovas and Casio's. I'm definitely going to have to stop in now! I'm surprised they have Hublot and Panerai there.

Bah. I'd be surprised if you were. I'm 6'6" :)

Actually, the reason I found this forum was because I purchased a watch from a grey market dealer (Amazon) and it arrived with a minor flaw and no papers/certificate. I was trying to figure out if it was a rep. The fear that definitely made me do my homework and learn a crapload about reps. I'd be comfortable buying from Costco if I could examine the watch first, but I doubt I'd go grey market again from an online dealer.

Yep, I've been sent what can only be described as a worn and used watch from Amazon (I returned it as well), I was pissed when I opened the box and the only thing I could come up with was that another customer bought the new watch and put his same used watch back in the box and returned it, the return department opened the box took a quick peek (yep watch is there kinda thing) snapped it back shut and tossed it back in the sales bin for the next buyer.

Costco, has a few diffrent ways of handling sales. They have the display case to show you their offerings and if you need assistance its usually no problem to get someone over so you can look the item over closley. You then fill out a card for the item and present it (the card) to the cashier for purchase and pay, then someone will open the storage department and pull the item (watch or whatever) look at your receipt and hand you the item for final inspection before you leave the store. However in some cases the watch in the display case is the only one on hand, so after you pay someone will run to the display case and pull the item out box it up and hand it to you. So, do NOT depend on what you see in the display case, it may or may not be the actual item you get.

They are not an AD for these brands they sell the only warranty you will recieve is their return purchase warranty. Theres is no repair warrranty or manufactuer warranty, even if your watch includes papers and a warranty from the manufactuer it most likely will not be honored by the brand because its a grey market watch and not purchased from an AD of theirs.

Now of course its your call on what to buy and how much to spend but I always put limits on grey market watches. You need to weigh the price paid, the risk, and quality of what your getting then consider if its woth the risk incase of a non working watch months later. For a big purchase I perfer to pay a bit more and have the AD warranty, for a small price F it save the funds and buy it.
