Hey long time lurker reading through all of your amazing information. Became a father last year so I have spent a very unhealthy amount of time in the early hours reading about watches. I blame my partner really. She bought me a watch box for my birthday last year and I couldn't stand the empty spaces. So to fill out the spaces around some casios, a couple of vintage and a few microbrands I tried a few homages. But they just didn't hit the spot and the tweaks away from the original designs irked me. I mean, a San Martin is pretty great quality but they just didn't feel at home on my wrist. And with a new boy in the house the time for big self splurges has been put on hold so I ended up making my way here and I'm so happy I did!
At the start of the year I made contact with Hont and within a week to Australia he had sent me my grail watch BB58 so picked up the VF V2. The design is still the one for me. I put it on and it just hits that spot, you know? The color, size light reflections all great. This one runs between -8 and -10 sec/day. The only issues Ive had with it are the bracelet. The little ball bearings disappeared in a few weeks and the edges behind are a bit catchy. So for a great summer watch its can be a bit uncomfortable on warmer days. But I'm on a mission to smooth polish those out shortly. If only someone made an aftermarket T-Fit clasp...
Then a few months later the itch came back and I couldn't take my eyes off the Aqua Terra. Maybe a little large at 41mm (39-40mm are the sweet spot for me) but dang if you want a slightly bulkier watch its not a bad way to go. Went the VSF through Hont and again had it in my greedy mits within a week. No complaints on this one at all. Runs at about 0/sec/day. Bracelet fits perfect (even without any micro adjustment) and sits perfect. It's the most comfortable watch I have by far. And checking the time when the hands catch the light - ooh mamma - she's a thing of beauty. And its now my daily office driver. The only caveat being that I polished the bracelet to all be brushed to remove the polished centre links.
But coming to the end of the year I had one spot left in the box and its been nagging at me. I didn't have any intention of filling it so soon but impulsively I just picked up the Spectre Seamaster 300. Its Beautiful. Again, about 0/sec/day and brilliant Micro Adjust. And I love the time zone setting to track my family in the US. In may haste this time I did have to get Hont to try a second version but it still has a misaligned bezel. I have a microbrand like this too.. they have 120 clicks but still manage to hit right in-between a click. And with Hont facing a national holiday I did have to wait an excruciating 2 weeks for this one... But its here and its grand - but I do have to say that it isnt instant wrist love, but she is growing on me. Then again, she is competing with a couple of beautiful sisters.
So thats it, box is full for now and feel like I have watch for all occasions. So I have to try and stay away from this site for now.
But there is a 39mm white oyster perpetual that is whispering in my ear...
