Cool beans. So you doing the school still or putting it off?

Yes, as soon as my tools are shipped in and im ordering a new Rep after Easter weekend. I have read through the course material already, but reading and hands on are two different things.

Any chance of breaking the class and tools cost (and source of tools) and what rep did you get?

I was reading that to get the course, you had to buy TZ's tools. How did you get around that?

8. I already have some or all of the required tools. Can I purchase specific tools or the movement separately?

Answer: Yes. Items in the tool kit, including the movements, may be ordered "a la carte" at the TZ Tool Shop.

I just printed out the list and purchased a cheaper version than the Bergeon sets that they where selling in the kit. For the cheaper version I was able to get everything for $100 (esslinger) instead of $233.90 without the movement. You can do the same thing off of the same TZ/Ofrei website for around $150 just by picking a cheaper items. That way if i decide i am not cut out for watch repair or don't like it i wont be out that much money. I think that the course website has some kind of agreement with Ofrei. So that is how I am able to take the course and still have enough left in my budget to purchase another Rep.

What does that mean Wiz? It sounds sarcastic.

I'm going to take the TZ too unless I find a better alternative.

It means someone who is dazzlingly skilled in any field or atleast that was the first thing i googled.

Wish I've known that before choosing my screen name. :)

Hey found this while searching for info on kello... I am in a similar position to yourself - keen to learn more about the mechanics!

Would love an update on your progress! Is the module any good? Or are the tools sitting idle....!

From what I've found myself, I purchased the TZ first session about 4 years ago, but never completed it. I broke the movement it came with within 2 hours! But since I got into reps, I've actually replaced a movement on a Rep Omega SMP, and fixed the keyless works on a DG2813 about 3 times already. I've learned more from online tutorials from these rep forums than the TZ school. But maybe I should try the school again. I have the whole first class saved off on my computer, and just need to go back and review again.

I just bought some Moebius oils the other day and I'm planning to do a complete service on a rep ladies rolex that was given to me for free. This way if I break it, I'll just do another movement swap. I have a friend who is a watch maker, and once I disassemble the watch I'm planning on taking the parts to his shop so he can clean them in his cleaning machine. Then I'll oil and resassemble using the chart for a sw200 that I found online. Should be close enough to get an idea on how to oil. Should be a fun exercise!

Let us know how your experience was, I'd love to know what you thought about the TZ school.
