GEN

This is a rep of the SLOB prototype that was produced in 10 pieces back in 1998 shortly after the Vendome acquisition, it has a case made of PVD'ed bronze with titanium caseback, crown and CG lever, and features a domed plexi.

It goes straight to the top of my to buy list :)

What do you guys think?

This is the first time the SLOB prototype has ever been repped. I was lucky enough to be able to help DSN on this project and the results were pretty darn good! I will be doing a tear down and review when my SLOB arrives next week. But in the mean time I've got some great shots of the unplated bronze case that this watch uses.

BTW, dial in my pics is his new 111E dial. His SLOB dial wasn't ready yet.

the case came to me polished, but has already started to patina from the oils on my fingers. Also the plexi has picked up some nicks ;)

Thanks Grim, my only concern from DSN's pics was the crystal shape, but seeing your pics I'm now sure the shape is correct.
The unplated case could be a good base for a nice fantasy/vintage build imho.

What do you think about the plating? How is it in person?
I have seen on rwgforum an attempt at repping it using a titanium case with a special PVD coating made of ceramic, bronze and other elements that was built by Rolli a few years ago, but in his pics the case looked brownish, while the gen seems to have a pencil grey with shades of yellow/orange.
I assume that using the same materials as gen the result should be quite close, but I would appreciate your opinion about it.
Knowing Davidsen took advantage from your advice makes me even more confident about the quality of this rep, few people have your knowledge ;)

You give me far too much credit!

I helped pick out details from photos to recreate as closely as possible. DSN did all the hard work, I just helped with the to do list. There were some limitations. For example the PVD coater DSN uses has only 2 types of coatings. Super Black and Light Gray. Luckily the light gray over the brass looks darker in person than his pictures show and more importantly, darker than his regular PVD. It also has some interesting golden under tones that show through from the case. The buyer will have the opportunity to lightly age the case to expose the underlying bronze like the photos of the gen.

Overall, I think this will end up being one of DSNs finest efforts! But I will let you all decide from my pictures next week

I just emailed David to atleast see about ordering an unplated case and a possible custom build (similar to slob but with 417 dial). I also hope the case will be waterproofable (is that even a word)......Would love to see the patina build up on the unplated case over time. If these cases are actually available by themselves unplated, this is a godsend for the custom builders especially over at HF. Bronze cases are so damn hot right now.

Also, Thank you to DSN and Grimlocktime for bringing this piece to life.

Interesting that you mention HF. HF is the whole reason that I recommended to DSN that he offer the Bronze case on it's own;) In fact, go see the thread I started over there, the title says it all!

Just checked it out. People are going nuts for the case. I sure hope he gets enough of the cases made. This is gonna be a hot hot hot seller.

I'll bet he sells quite a few of those. I'm tempted to order one and ask for the plain uncoated brass case....looks nice!

I think it would be cool to order the regular slob and an extra bronze case to go with it. Then you can change cases like you change straps. I actually do this with my Pre-V dials. I have a case reshape I did that I love. I will switch it from a 201/a destro to a 205/a Sly Tech. I do the same thing with my 202/A and 203/A. It takes about 10 minutes;) and you have a whole new watch!

I think it's okay. They get touchy about it on HF, but it's probably okay here

Here's the edge wear I'm referring to

I think a light touch of some 1200 grit sandpaper will get you there.
