Correct me if I'm wrong but supposedly you have all the $ to buy the most expensive PAM, would you be complaining? I know I wouldnt.
Yes, I would.
With money out of the equation, if I want complications I'll buy IWC DaVinci , if I want a moon phase I'll buy A. Lange & Söhne, if I want ceramic I'll buy rado, if I want stickers on my dials I'll buy a frogmariner (
) BUT if I want an expensive PAM, it better be a 10 day auto in a 1950 platinum mini case, only hr-min-sec in the front please, and a power reserve on the back. (If I wear it, there is no need for a power reserve display, right?) And no "platinum" printed on the dial.
You don't see Mercedes building pick ups. You don't see Martin Logan selling computer speakers. You don't see Mont Blanc selling disposable pens.
They can, but they choose not to. They are trying to maintain their image. Panerai had to shake off two things: reps and the "low horological merit". How do paneristi people feel about reps with swiss unitas? Or about all the no-name unitas powered watches? MAD! They had to have their own calibers. They just over did it with new features and busy dials.
Hey, it is not THAT BAD after all. They have a long way to go to match the 50k$ Rolex Daytona "Special Edition" 40mm, bezel set with 36 baguette cognac sapphires, end pieces set with 48 diamonds, 8 diamonds set on leopard print dial!
