Thats about right. Nothing wrong with that watch. Kinda like the tourbillon, too. :D

Now who exactly do I have to kill to get one?

Replica of this watch is very difficult because the movement would be too expensive.
I saw this watch yesterday live in Florence-Italy at latest Panerai show; it's gonna cost 5 figures euros!!

Wohooo... 5 figures.

To me, all them new watches arent fit to be called a Panerai but the new Submersible with the depth indicator or something.

Do you know how much is this watch below, Krieg?

Damn, the blackseal with the commando submarine logo is really nice.

But I don't like the tourbilion et al - this is supposed to be a tool watch, not a fragile horological masterpiece!

I am with thehorse on this. I really do not like the new direction OP seems to be going. It looks like they are trying to change the image of the already loved and sought after watch to much.

Exciting times for panerai. The new calibers look very interesting. They found themselves with the money and attention, and seem to try to steer towards more horological territory. This is what WIS purists always blamed them for: selling a unitas at top dollar.

I am sure they will not suspend their historic lines. If they decide to stop 6497/7753, I hope they will keep the simplicity in them: ex. a 127 should have no more indicators, or divers on pigs, or whatever complications.

With this in mind, the ceramic black seal is unfitting. Gun-PVD would be ok (davidsen has it already!!), but ceramic? In a military watch? Hm... no-no. What function will it provide? Stealthiness? pp-please!

PS: The new cosc 10-day auto is something of interest..

I love where they are going.

I understand the notion of a tool watch, but I doubt many of these have been used in that capacity since they were given out by the Italian Navy 60 years ago.

People have big money nowadays - they are sucking up the hype like the best of them - getting what they can while the iron is hot. I think these new watches are beautiful. And I bet people who are buying the gens are already waiting in line.

They are pretty smart giving a big F-U to the rep end by making difficult to rep watches. It will be fun to watch if the hype works.

I for one love the new movements and watches - and big time collectors love toubillons and limited runs and complications - guys that are paying $20-30-50,000 for watches. I think Panerai is listening to them.

I have a very good friend that works for Jorg Hysek (sp?) and Hysek is putting out $350,000 watches and people are snatching them up and waiting in line to do so (in spite of how ugly I happen to think they may be). Lots of people out there that have lots of disposable income.

I think we will see even more complications coming out of these calibers. A da vinci panerai for 100k maybe? These calibers are strong like hammers, and when you are holding a hammer, everything looks like a nail!

I think we will see a FRONT side tourbillion sooner than later.

I think we will see a full platinum bracelet too!

[sarcasm on]
I think we will see a square model, a 38mm model, a quartz model with wave ceptor technology, a pilot watch with a utc and emergency antenna, rfid embedded, even an iphone-mp3 player by panerai.
[sarcasm off]

Why? Because they are currently riding a golden wave of fame and they ride it hard bringing profit to the Group.

Heck, they had all the money to develop new calibers, why not use all of their gimicks now that they have them? Include the submarine too!! You noticed the stick on personnel submarine on that ceramic black seal right? The notice_me_NOW_neon-blue dot of the tourbillon? (So that nobody will mistake it with a running seconds). What about the DEPTH GAUGE that any 70$ swatch scuba has? You know, the one that NO diver would use if his life depended on it.. Maybe the "Platinum" on the face of the 10day radiomir? How about glazing the price tag around the bezel?

To some of us, these are not fitting with our perception of the panerai image SO FAR. But, this is the addition of panerai for 2007, like it or not! :) i don't. :)

PS: I wish they will release an equivalent of the angelus with the 10day auto in it. And NO other display on the front please.
PS2: Hey, how about a Frank Muller diver's watch? Let's start a petition! :)

fine, create a subdivison, a rarity niche, but dump on your core audience? This all sounds less like, Panerai the brand, and more like Corporate hive mind logic. I am surprised they haven't introduced new labeling:

PANERAI a division of the Richmont Group

very warm and fuzzy

I would love to buy from companies that care about that shit, but they are few are far between today. It is hard enough trying to keep money in the States on US made products. They (Panerai) are catering to the $ of their customers - all the people that are lining up to buy these. I wish I was one of them, but I am sure they couldn't care less either way. They certainly won't make decisions like that based on guys like me.

I doubt they are going to stop making 3000 111's a year or 4000 104's a year (and the other multi thousand runs of all the other current PAMS) all for a few hundred 10-day batches. I don't think they are planning on that. But a few limited edition, kick-ass runs - hell yeah. I'm all for it.

The only one I would even consider buying (provided that I had that much to spend on a watch) would be the depth meter diver.

WTF is with the one with "Platinum" printed right on the dial?!?!?!?!?!?! Richmont is trying to ruin the brand, IMO.

If Panerai's only new offerings are these horoligical masterpieces...

They just announced a new in-house movement, including a tourbillon. Seems like a lot from them (from ANY watch manufacturer). I don't follow too many watches but I doubt few manfacturers came out with what Panerai did - all while maintaining their present line.

Yes, I would love to be the $4K to $30K guy too - but do you think the guy buying the $350,000 watch is doing it because its a wise investment? He can probably wipe his ass with hundreds if he wants. I would hate to see the portfolio of anyone that relies on watches for investment. It just seems like something you get because you like - and I just think that lots of people who can will. Maybe yes, Panerai will and is riding that wave of trendiness right now. Shouldn't they?

I think the R&D money just means they (Panerai) will be around for a while - all while offering stuff I can afford and stuff that makes me want to kill whole villages of women and children (because thats about the only way I will ever afford one).

Sadly lots of companies sell out - to the dismay of some of their fans. I am just mad because there aren't reps of the 233 available :(

I guess they just have all the functions I like in a watch - GMT, date - stuff like that that is most likely pointless on a dive watch. And I think the case is perfect - not as blocky as a 111 style and not as clammy as a Rad - I like the 1950 shape, and like it even more in 44mm (47 is a bit Flava Flav on me).

But if I was a diver I wouldn't be wearing one either. Most divers I know don't even wear Rolexes - and why the hell does a SeaDweller have a date window on it? Do you really need to know if it's the 9th 4000 feet down? Or a GMT? Is that necesary for diving.

No - but collectors obviously like that shit - just like people like Perpetual Calendar Pateks - and those come shrink wrapped in a chinsy cardboard box! We will have to see if this is one big marketing blunder for Panerai. I actually hope so - then maybe prices of 233's will shit the bed and flood the used market! One can only hope the marketing people at Panerai are a bunch of idiots.
