Hello everybody,
How did i end up here while not being in to watches less than 6 month ago... Oh boy...
As many people, when you reach an important milestone in live you want to award yourself with a nice gimmick and the one gimmick I always missed was a nice watch. When i reached that particular milestone I was stocked and marched right in to the local Rolex AD and asked for a nice Two tone Datejust, nothing to fancy.
The Local AD looked at me and told me, in a firm but polite voice; "Sir, these watches are out of stock there is already a waiting list with 90 people in the country for your particular model alone! The best we can do is Offer you another watch or put you on the list."
Well, if you're about to burn €15k on a watch you want it to be the one you want, so I walked out with my name on that list. I heared about the grey market but that's not my cup of tea so I just went on with life as usual.
Fastforward a few weeks later and an acquaintance of mine contacted me telling me he has the particular watch i'm looking for sending me pictures and telling me he would sell it to me slightly under retail.
I'm not the most gullable guy in the world so I was rather suspicious, and told him it might be a replica, he tried to assure me it was not. I said I would think about it. and started doing some research. Meanwhile his price kept dropping. The local AD did not want to assist me in gen checking, so i had no idea, and still have no idea how to gen check this watch in my neighbourhood. Meanwhile the price keeps dropping.
So yeah, bit by bit i'm getting in to this rabbithole about watches, modding community, aliexpress community and yeah now i'm here, in the rep community. very interested in how these things work, and getting more and more appreciation for watches in general, they are an artform and an expression.
So after residing in the Seiko modding community for a time and getting a feel to make my own hommage watches with ready to go parts, now i'm here to learn more.
