Ale, Bronze is cheaper and easyer to work with than Stainless billet.
Hi frig
Yes I know about that, because I have worked during 30 years with SS, Aluminum, Bronze... and all types of metals.
Not all bronze are cheaper than SS and mainly special bronze as it should be. Anyway this is not the problem with about 100 gr of material.
Bronze is softer, but that doesn't mean it is easier to work !!!. usually in regular hardness the harder the metal the easier to work. Many times you include alloyed elements to make harder the metal in order to make easier the tooling (in general terms of course and in regular hardness)
But the matter is the quantity !!!
It is not the same for a maker buying several tons of SS that buying several kgs. of a special Bronze.
And it is not the same to prepare a machine to tool 5000 watches with the same tools for SS than the last batch, that preparing the machine to make 100 units with new tools special for the Bronze.
This is the real difference and due to above mentioned a Bronze watch should be much more expensive.
