Any idea on reliability? Timebomb?
I think nobody can say that at the moment. The Gen calibre itself is not the most reliable. As with all chronographs, you should not use the chronograph function and (hopefully) it will be somewhat reliable :D

Great question. If the gen 4401 is considered unreliable or sub-par compared with other gen chronograph movements, how will the clone 4401 movement perform better than the gen? If anything else, the clone movement will perform worse the already sub-par gen movement.

So negative. I actually foresee a day when gen 26240 owners will search for dd4401s to transplant into their watches in order to experience its legendary robust timekeeping and reliability.
Nah, but in all seriousness let's just wait and see. Worst case someone will make a killing maintaining these things.
I couldn't wait. Mine is on order.

Any info on when they're actually dropping and we're gonna see some customer QCs?

I had a gen 7750 Tricompax with Flyback some 20 years ago and it was not good. I think the Flyback is quite difficult to built.

I did as well, when I inquired about getting it serviced the manufacturer would not. They said they stopped servicing them.

My guess is you don't want CE too tight because it's actually easy to break it, CE takes extra care.
That makes sense…

If only they put a little adjuster on the deployant
I take out 4 and its too tight, 3 too loose
They have half link at extra cost

I have a cnc gen Cartier franken.
Maybe time to sell or will anyone go for a build like that now ?
🤣

I had an order out for the same build you're describing, but my guy (bless his exceedingly honest heart) informed me of the 4401 superclone in development and suggested that I cancel the order and wait for this release given the cost savings. I took his advice and have been pent up like a horny dog in a cage ever since, eagerly waiting for this release. That was about two years ago iirc.

It's about damned time.

ehh apples to oranges. You can't compare a gen movement to this clone.

The movement is ultra cool, I can't believe it's the first rep flyback chronograph, but I doubt I will ever run the chronograph, probably just once to make sure it works. What makes me happy is a full replicated, no sunken date, with the correct thickness... that's what the true beauty of this SC offers us.

I want a watch maker to break it down first to see what's up with it. I also will probably get mines instantly serviced although I'm not really sure if there's a AP4401 servicing guide or anything which could make it difficult.
