If you're building your first, I'd recommend getting a kit from Rafflesdials. It's about as easy as these things get, and other than deciding what movement to use, everything you need comes in the package.

You can assemble the parts yourself, but it takes a bit of work and research if you've never done it before to make sure all the parts work together.

For the movement, most here use AliExpress. A genuine Swiss 2824 is also an option, but considerably more expensive.

There are tons of threads on building watches, here and elsewhere. I'd recommend doing the research and assembling the tools while you're waiting for the parts to arrive.

Hello and WELCOME from the official RWI reception desk!

You are receiving this introduction because you either posted in the "new members say hi" section or —for the first time(s)— elsewhere. In the latter case, consider introducing yourself in the aforementioned section.

If you haven't already, please make sure to read all relevant sticky threads. They contain important and essential information such as the forum rules! Most importantly the sales rules, because you will NOT yet be eligible / allowed to sell unless you meet certain criteria / are certified first.

A good starting point is this list of resources on RWI:

Please also take another look at this important sticky that you should already have seen after logging on for the first time:

This quick anti-fraud guide is essential if you are about to order from a dealer for the first time:

If you need any further assistance, feel free to contact me or @Feefo!

We will gladly help, but please allow some time for PM responses as we have lifes outside of RWI!

Why are some people on this forum so unhelpful and sarcastic its really poor actually as it helps no one.
It's not that, it's that when you register, there are links the community asks you to read, which will usually give you the answers to the questions that many or most newcomers might have.

It's a courtesy to the community to do the research before asking questions, to prevent the forum from being cluttered with the variations on the same post, dozens or hundreds of times a day. See the various Reddit replica forums if you don't mind that...just don't be surprised if the valuable information you seek is buried in thousands of posts asking "Who has the best AAAA+++ Super Rep Submariner?" and "I bought this rep for $100 on vacation in Thailand, is it good?" or even "Where do I buy a good Daytona?" etc, etc, etc. We try to keep this forum "clean" to avoid that issue.

Read the links in post #5, please. It's the least you can do to show courtesy and respect for the members here, who...believe it or not...have TONS of valuable information that they're usually happy to share, provided you meet them half way. What we don't want to have here, is a forum flooded with superflous and unneccessary posts asking the same thing...essentially "burying" the valuable information we come here seeking.

This is a community full of passionate enthusiasts, many of whom have spent years, thousands of dollars, and hours of sweat equity into solving the problems that most people come here with. Most are happy to share the information, although some indulge in a little "hazing" of the new guys, it's just how it is.

Picture going to a dinner party, where people with a common interest gather to discuss things of mutual interest. Now picture the conversation keeps getting interrupted by someone's kid asking the simplest questions, to the point where nothing can be discussed.

That said, welcome to the forum, I see you're NOT asking questions and in the welcome section, so don't be discouraged...just learn what you can, contribute when you can, and enjoy!

Why are some people on this forum so unhelpful and sarcastic its really poor actually as it helps no one.
Because people like to judge a book by its cover. How long have you been here? How long has Testa760 been here? Did you read every one of his posts, and found nothing helpful in all 242xx posts? Or do you just give your verdict by a glimpse?

In the latter case, you are also not helpful at all. 109 posts 60 likes? Where is your helpful feedback gone?

You know what's true sarcasm (or more precisely: pure irony)?

A unhelpful thread crapping post, only meant to complain about how unhelpful everyone is. Now, THAT's ironic sarcasm right there!

How about leading by example and posting something helpful for the OP instead, like our honorary & volunteer sub-section assistant mod @asusundevils1971 did? Or @dpd3672? How about that, Mr. Smarty Trousers?

MaximillianGT think they have a stalking kind of fixation for @TESLA760 (24K plus messages holy shite) and just wants to be accepted by him.

Agreed not a very welcoming forum i must admit. The mods don't seem bothered.
You have already been talked to by another moderator about your useless comment above. Going through two pages of your messages it looks like you have contributed about 1% to the forum of your 109 messages.

Think you should be less concerned about what others post and use the extra free time to read and soak up all the information provided here.

@eBoy do you I get half a badge for being a sub-section assistant moderator and also do I get access to half of the RWI perks the staff get lol..

No. Not really... Honorary & volunteer staff main perk is that you get the honor of doing chores for the actual staff. 😄👍

Speaking of which: My camper's pooper is a bit "not clean". My 600lbs aunt Frannie was visiting (we don't let her use the real bathroom in house for very disgusting reasons I can't mention here). Would you mind ...? Thanks, Broseph! 😘

Oh, and Brutus, @Feefo's cute butler dog, needs to be taken to the vet. Please be careful. The last 3 volunteers' funerals were weighing pretty heavily on RWI's special funds...

Ok, and now let's please stop derailing (speaking to myself) the poor OP's intro thread (Sorry, OP! 🙏) and get back to self-building Datejusts!

I'm a bit torn here. While I don't think @Eds1981 post here warranted all the flaming, the link from the other thread reminded me of his views.
The mods are very well bothered that nobody gets offended and nobody crosses specific lines.
After all we're grown ups and in this forum everyone is free to express his opinion (within the aforementioned boundaries). Irony and sarcasm are, in my view, acceptable and we expect the members to be able to deal with those. This is an internet forum, the atmosphere can be light-hearted, exuberant and even Bohemian at times.
Often, it's the reaction to stingy sarcasm that seals your "success" as a forum member. Don't take it too seriously.

Back to topic, posts #2 and #4 have very useful links to get started on a DJ build.

OP if you are really interested in doing some DIY reps building, take a look at Karbon74's journal. He does an exceptional job on this:
