See in the last picture? How the minute hand is bent upward to clear the indice? That is the problem I was referring to. It's not bad at all on that watch. On the 2824, my watch, it was worse. That is all I am saying.

Give it shot bee. Maybe my circumstances and parts were a little different. I am not a watchmaker by any stretch of the imagination. Also, consider that the "stock" movements he was referring to, may have also been different. I got mine from Otto Frei. 2824 Mondaine Chronometer grade movement. They are no longer for sale.

Jump I did as you suggested on a 2824. I kept it as thin as it would go. I even took the print off the ETA datewheel underneath. The hands worked but I noticed they were at an angle. It drove me nuts.

So it didn't work for me and I had a heck of time getting the datewheel not to drag. You seem like an accomplish watchsmith so I take your word on this one. :)

OP, go for it! :)

R2D2...if you notice, I specified that these are both 2836-2s. I cannot speak for the 2824, although I have used many...just not on a sub rep.

They will have a glued on Datwheel overlay if you tell your dealer which watch you want it for. I was suggesting you contact them and say, hey, I need a movement and hands for my Sub. ;)

And Jump, thanks for pointing that out. :) Your way works too. :)I also know you can get the movements with higher wheels. I bought a used 2836-2 from a Tissot it had the 4.2 high wheels. It had a really thick dial.

All the hands are perfectly horizontal. It was never even a worry. I, at no time, even gave a thought to the height of the pinions. I can show many more pics if you'd like. Look at the uncased LV pic. Perfectly level witht he dial.

If you went higher on this you might have a problem with the second hand hitting the crystal.

I am just relating the experiences that I have had and not trying to contradict someone else's experience. Don't want to get into a fuss about it.

I think that the thickness of the dial is the real determining factor here and not a dwo. It has a different problem, as you pointed out, but overall thickness is not it.

Thanks!

I just go see the technical documents at ETA.

hour wheel length for 2824-2=1.25mm

hour wheel length for 2836-2=1.75mm

This explains many things!

all the wheels are higher on the 2836-2 cause the movement is more thick

Most of the time, the glued on datwheel overlay (the little metal ring between the background date disk and the added rep one, right ?) is added on Rolex GMT models.
As the added GMT setting transmission gear is installed hight. That is causing troubles with the free turning when an other added date disk is present.
In case of a Sub, the rep printed disk can be glued direct on the metalic date disk part.

Hope you understand, if not, learn French, as I have learn English before coming here :biglaugh:
