The only melting watch dial I've ever heard of involved Salvador Dali. :hypno: I have this exact same watch and can attest to it holding up just fine to normal exposure to direct sunlight and even holding it next to a hot light bulb to charge the lume. I'm no photographer but I can see how a super powerful flash at 100% held a couple of inches away could do some damage to coatings on the crystal and dial. Don't those things emit lots on UV light too?
You also got guts doing the repair yourself! I admittedly did not know what i was doing but I only made it halfway through a disassembly once before I learned that I'm not cutout for that kind of work (I screwed up the keyless clutch doohickey by pushing the stem release button in .5 mm too far). Also those little tabs that hold the movement to the case are a PITA to get in there. Every time I tried to put a screw in the damn things would slip.$50 at a watchsmith saved hours of grief and/or me just smashing the whole thing with a hammer. The people who do this type of work and enjoy it are a special breed.
I hope it works out for you.
