I would be in heaven! I'm interested to know how the prices compared to what our dealers charge. You can PM me if you like.

A very enjoyable read. Its posts like these which make the forum great!

Its like the mystical obsession that some of us have of tracking down the origins of our favouritre reps and buying a caseful at rock bottom price!

If only..!!!!

Thanks Guru!

Very nice trip you have there my friend :) I am drooling to get there myself, perhaps next year upon return from Germany. Singapore - BKK = even cheaper.

Glad that you like the SFSO. It's a good watch.

MBW vintage rolex models are assembled on order only!!!! First you order and then you pick them up 2 days later. This is how it works.....no other way about it!

The nautilus and jumbo ap (on first floor shop) are the best you can get. These are the mbw version that the thai-based dealers have been and are offering.

All mbws come from this one shop on first floor MBK.

P.S. When you get watches from that shop always specify "swiss machine" or "eta" so they know exactly what you want.

I lucked out when I was there. I stated the models that I wanted and he said "Have...need to make. Pay now and come back tomorrow."

I then replied, "Hmmm...how about if I give a deposit?" (Because I wasn't sure if this was the MBW guy)

He then starts pulling out all the models that I wanted from under the counter, along with two different Milgauss models. The only vintage Rollie he didn't have was the 5512.

I paid for a SRSD, Great White, and a Nautilus and walked away beaming and giddy like a little kid. I returned the next day and bought the 5512.

While I was at the MBW shop, he also showed me his Aquanaut, EOD, Royal Oak, and a RO Chrono. I was very impressed with the fit and finish of all of these. I would recommend to anyone a vacation to BKK and a stop at the MBK Mall to visit the "MBW Shop".

While I was there on the second day, I think one of our "dealers / collectors" was there checking out a few pieces. If you still have it, "nice Daytona"! ... 8) ... :)

Guys, not that you understand me wrong when I said I was not impressed from the watches, they are simply not my style.

When I asked for the vintage the guy told me, we do not have, no catalog ...nothing. I got the Patek for my wife, I came back a day later and asked for vintage again...we do not have. The sales guy was not smiling, he was jut unfriendly to me and he looked to me like saying, what do you want now? So I am not complaining, maybe he had a bad day. By the way, when I visited him the first day, he sold 2 Ferraries. I will be back in April, maybe I will see a nicer sales person.

The vintage rolex are not in any catalog or anything.

Just tell the shop keeper that you want to place an order and come pick up next day. Tell him "you bought here before" or "the old scottish git from patttaya sent you or something like that...

Use your head! and be creative. Jeez, this is Asia and a little ingenuity goes a long way. Make a joke, break the ice and all will be fine.

Put yourself in the shop's shoes: they are facing some heat from police and r*lex lawyers for sure....

It is a very good informative post. It is also nice to see things in different angle. I am glad you more or less enjoy your trip and your vaction. I think shopping of any kind, either watch, shirt, etc should be just the side agenda. Your lovely vacation is more important and where your money is worth it, it is even more valve for you. Hope on your next trip, we can meet together.

Cheers,

I agree on that, you start with one and you end with more ......
I always was a Rolli guy, then I found RWI and I changed to Panerai, then Breitling and know I am getting the Rollies back out of the box and started to buy a GMT II C and a DSSD. But I still love the Breitlings............ enjoy your trip to Thailand, a great country, I will save some money and go back soon.

What a great holiday and place!! super work and great write up.

Can i just offer one word to the wise. In fact it might be worth someone putting a sticky up about it somewhere.

If you must buy replica sunglasses DO NOT under any circumstances wear them in bright sunshine. Sounds daft? its not.

Because they are dark, when you wear them your eyes (pupils) open up more to let more light in (just like in a dark room) but the lenses are not UV protected so let through as much invisible light as if you weren't wearing them, damaging your eyes quite badly. people who wear reps day in day out in sunny places have been known to go blind from this. Just a warning. still, wear them on overcast days no problem.
