Hi everyone,
As the title says, today my very first "rep" arrived at home. I wrote it in quotation marks because it's just a shitter I got from a well known guy over at the ChinaTime reddit, a high quality rep of a different watch is already on its way thanks to Steve from The One Watches, who was very quick to answer and moved really fast through the whole process I must say, and so far communication has been excellent and I am more than satisfied with his service.
But back to the topic in question, I got a shitter of an Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra with a Miyota 9015 movement for ~130€, I knew what I was getting into. I wasn't expecting high quality, I kept looking at all the differences between the gen and the shitter I had just bought, comparing side to side, looking at all the flaws and the tells and whatnot, and convinced me that I was going to get a very shitty piece.
Well, now with the watch in my hands, the story is completely different. I'm not going to say that it is high quality or better than I expected, it is most definitely not. But you know what? All those flaws, errors, discrepancies, tells and differences to the gen that are sooooooo easy to spot in a zoomed-in picture taking my whole monitor are actually very difficult to see in real-life size.
My eyes are not the best, granted, but still. You read the FAQs telling you to not obsess about something being a quarter of a mm off and such, that in real life you don't see it that easily (if at all), but experiencing it first hand with my own eyes certainly impacted differently. Now I definitely have a different perspective about the people over at Reddit bitching about the smallest of things. And if a 130€ shitter can somehow feel so nice, with all its flaws and bad quality, I am certainly stoked about the watch that I will soon get from Steve (V7F IWC Pilot Mark XX, if anybody is interested)
Some pictures of the major shitter in question:
They didn't even try to decorate the movement like the gen, but that didn't bother me as it is not something you see when you are actually using the watch.
What I thought it would annoy me the most, is that the "Swiss made" writing around de 6 o'clock marker is using a whole different font than the gen and is not even well entered, but with the watch in my wrist and at a normal distance I can barely read it.
