My very first "rep" arrived today. A lesson I learned

Hi everyone,

As the title says, today my very first "rep" arrived at home. I wrote it in quotation marks because it's just a shitter I got from a well known guy over at the ChinaTime reddit, a high quality rep of a different watch is already on its way thanks to Steve from The One Watches, who was very quick to answer and moved really fast through the whole process I must say, and so far communication has been excellent and I am more than satisfied with his service.

But back to the topic in question, I got a shitter of an Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra with a Miyota 9015 movement for ~130€, I knew what I was getting into. I wasn't expecting high quality, I kept looking at all the differences between the gen and the shitter I had just bought, comparing side to side, looking at all the flaws and the tells and whatnot, and convinced me that I was going to get a very shitty piece.

Well, now with the watch in my hands, the story is completely different. I'm not going to say that it is high quality or better than I expected, it is most definitely not. But you know what? All those flaws, errors, discrepancies, tells and differences to the gen that are sooooooo easy to spot in a zoomed-in picture taking my whole monitor are actually very difficult to see in real-life size.

My eyes are not the best, granted, but still. You read the FAQs telling you to not obsess about something being a quarter of a mm off and such, that in real life you don't see it that easily (if at all), but experiencing it first hand with my own eyes certainly impacted differently. Now I definitely have a different perspective about the people over at Reddit bitching about the smallest of things. And if a 130€ shitter can somehow feel so nice, with all its flaws and bad quality, I am certainly stoked about the watch that I will soon get from Steve (V7F IWC Pilot Mark XX, if anybody is interested)

Some pictures of the major shitter in question:

They didn't even try to decorate the movement like the gen, but that didn't bother me as it is not something you see when you are actually using the watch.
What I thought it would annoy me the most, is that the "Swiss made" writing around de 6 o'clock marker is using a whole different font than the gen and is not even well entered, but with the watch in my wrist and at a normal distance I can barely read it.

This is a really great post- now imagine how it matters even less to somebody that sees it on you- and your watch can be just for you, the way it should be! Wear in good health. Also if you’re bringing pictures of this you’d better post when that mark xx gets here! 😍

And I'm wishing for a Mark XII ...
My rep plans have turned into fan fiction- I want the gen companies to make what I want so I can support a factory in china that robs their intellectual property, and I want it very often. Make a 42mm skipper, tag!! Fix the stupid hour hand on the new yellow gold 1908, Rolex!

No matter where I go, I'm always there.

I understand that perfectly. Another great thing about reps is that you can mod them without losing a fortune. So get that rolex rep once available and get the hour hand changed to your liking.

Yeah im super new here but I think about that a lot as a someday plan- I don’t think I’d ever be a big franken guy as I like the shitters too much lol, but I would absolutely mod a thing or two out to give me what I want- I love fantasy pieces.

It’s not a 9015
I went back to the website and my chat with the seller, and in both places it just says "Miyota", I don't know where I got the idea that it was a 9015, that was just in my mind apparently.

Now whether it is a Miyota at all or not, I don't have the knowledge to verify it. I payed 40 usd extra to get a model with a Miyota, so if whatever is inside is not, then I was scammed by the seller.

A lot of the dealers very loosely use the brand name Miyota. From what I can see it's probably a DG 2813 variant and that's what I would expect in that price range of watch. It's basically an Chinese clone of a Miyota, so in very loose terms they are related on some levels. They are generally reliable work horse movements.

The 2813, 8215 are even uglier than the NH3x and that takes some doing…

But they are reliable and steady

A lot of girls marry this type of boyfriend. So you are good

Absolutely a DG clone—1000%, no doubt.

No self-respecting low-tier repper in Guangzhou would embarrass himself by putting a real Miyota (at $40) into a ~$100 shitter.

Of course they’ll go with the Chinese clone for $5–10 instead. 😁😄

Well, you live, you learn. Luckily it was only $40 extra I threw away, so it's not a big deal :D
I'll stay away from low-tier reps, but I'm glad I have a watch where I can practice some stuff without the pressure of ruining an expensive rep or, let alone, the only gen I have that is still ticking :p
