Interesting. After you said that I looked at mine again. I knew it had the tiniest amount of vertical play not even worth mentioning. But what I noticed just now is that if I press down on the bezel as I turn it has a deeper sounding click and if you simply turn it without pressing it has a higher tingier sounding click. I'd be interstellar to hear the gen click. Does the rep have gen construction?

Yea there is both vertical play and some slight horizontal (the turning) on the bezel. The click on the gen is even louder than the rep, its the loudest I've ever heard really, but its very crisp. I believe it does have gen construction but I am no expert, but I have seen rep BBs with gen bezels, dials, etc

Why did you build it out of the case set instead of buying it from a TD? Indeed, this is a really beautiful watch. Respect for that! :flowers1:

I'm also curious about this. I'm looking to buy a BB and while it could be fun to build it yourself, is there any upside to getting it in kit form over a complete watch? Is it only for the movement?

occb2 says the quality of the eBay kit is higher than the rep in his experience. I haven't seen the eBay kit in person but it looks the same as my rep and I'm very happy with my v4. I think he said the hands suck so they are replaced with gen hands and then a relume is required. So OP has paid $230 kit, $200 gen eta, $160 (?) Relume. (Don't quote me on this).

So if you want to spend the money and have the best black bay rep possible this may be the solution. Or you could buy the rep and wear it OOB for $279. Depends what you want. In my case I bought the rep and the movement died after a week so I'm going to have to switch the movement anyways.

I'm sure Rob can give a better more detailed perspective than that

I am the one who built it for him. So I guess I can answer this. He and I were talking about watches. I have built around 5 of these. A friend of mine found that guy on Ebay. He swore after going back and forth with messages that it was real. The guy had a story and I don't and didn't believe it. He said that he was a watch seller and that Tudor wasn't like Rolex, that he could order everything down to the case. He had put a bunch of full kits on eBay. So my buddy Aaron brought it in red. I ordered a 2824 from Star Time and it came in and I installed the movement and pressed the hands. It was a very nice watch. I had a Asian copy with the asian 2824 that I had personally. I compared it to it. The bracelet was better, the crystal was flatter the red alum piece by the crown was larger on his. So I ordered one for myself. I put it together and loved the watch and I gave it to my best friend 5 months later.

I made one for Malevolent and put up a sales thread so it wouldn't be a back door sales. He still has it. After the melt down he tried to sell it next door. Then I made one for my brother in law.

Then the Blue one came out. My buddy again ordered the kit form the guy and I ordered the movement. This time I noticed the quality had gone down. It wasn't as great as it was it the first set. Also the guy started to sell other "Watch Kits"But the watch was still better than the stuff that was coming out of China. I was putting in real ETA 2824's and timing them and the watches were great looking.

Then the Black one came out. Arron wanted that. Then the kit was nice again. That was when I was speaking to the OP by text. I had told him about the watches and he wanted one. I ordered the movement and he ordered the watch kit. It was a nice kit. Normally I would change the hands to Eta hands from ST because the were just real cheap on this one they were good hands.

So I didn't charge for the labor and I charged him what I paid for the movement. He paid for the shipping. He knows I am learning how to work on watches and movements. What I like about this kit is that the quality of the band is amazing. The case weight and bezel is amazing. I also noticed, and I can only judge the one I had, the crystal is flat like the real one is and there is a nice hight of the crystal. This was the big difference with the fake I had. Crystal and band. So that is it. It was fun and I look forward to doing it again.

Also comparing asian 21j or even an asian 2824, unless it is serviced and cleaned right when you get it...there is no comparison. He is getting a brand new with warranty eta 2824-2. MaronAckay, you see the worth of an a2824, your TC you said kept stopping and your black bay is dead after having it a couple.... So you will have a brand new movement. I can also tell you, again from the fakes that were out two years ago, that the kit was a lot nicer than those.

Motorcycleboy, I can't give you my opinion on it because I don't have it or I have never seen it. The only thing I wonder is if this guy on eBay is mixing real parts with fake stuff and working it that way. How is he still on Ebay? He has a very good record. Trust me, I don't believe for one moment the whole thing is real, but maybe he is getting real bands or cases. I don't know. I would ask him. His story from what I got from my friend Keith, is that he orders a bunch of parts and puts the kits together. Then sells them.

Like I said, he use to just have Tudor. Now the last time I looked he has a bunch of different brands.

occb2 Thanks again, now I really don't know which way to go..
Think I'll start of with contacting the eBay seller and ask if he can source a kit for the BB Black with golden markings.
If he can't, then it's an easy choice, go with a TD. If he can, time to think about it again.. :)

Sounds good. I can say that no one has been disappointed with the kit yet. I thought that the blue kit seemed cheaper but Aaron still loves it. Here is a pic of his Red one. When the OP texted me that he had to send it out to get lume work. I didn't know why. I used the hands that came with the kit. This one is 2 years old and it is day time and he walked in from outside and this was the 1st one I built.

There's no way there's any gen parts in there or he wouldn't make a profit. But maybe he uses a gen spec crystal instead of the Chinese crystal. He probably has a hook up for rep parts that have been qc'd. I'd say the biggest advantage as rob said I'd the Swiss movement. Asian movements are a luck of the draw. My bpsd is running as well as my swiss watches but my blackbay died after a week. Put a swiss in there and be worry free.

Ps that lume looks killer!

Like I said. I can only compare it to the one I had. This one was a lot nicer. The OP liked it. Malevolent likes it. Best friend loves it. Haven't had a complaint yet. Op wear it in great health and it looks great.

Hey everyone. Just wanted to show you all my new watch and all the details behind it.

Back around Christmas time I was texting @occb2 and I asked him what he knew about the black bay reps.

He advised me to get a kit off ebay (this one: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Blue-316L-S...ck-Bay-case-set-For-Eta-2824-2-/131696791257?) and that he would order an ETA 2824-2 from Star Time Supply. I ordered it on Dec. 29 and it was at my door on January 11.

Sent the watch out to Rob (occb2) and he was able to get a hold of the ETA (which was about $180 I believe) and worked his magic. Want to give a big thanks to Rob for putting this together and being the great guy he is. Thanks so much brother.

The watch looked great when he finished putting it all together. I got it back and realized that the lume was uneven, so I got in contact with Vac and he got the watch delivered on February 8th for waterproofing and reluming. I finally got the watch back from Vac at my door on the 27th of February which I am very pleased with. Here is the new lume on it.

Overall, I am very pleased with the watch and it will be getting some nice wrist time. Here are a couple of more shots I got today of it, I personally LOVE throwing it on NATO's. I will possibly look into getting the gen fabric strap for it sometime soon.
