Ok gentle readers. I just received my new Sinn U1 from my TD, Mr. Toro. As always he sent me an excellent piece. This is my 9th Rep, that keeps many of my Gens company. I'm starting to clean out my inventory, and wanted to see if this Sinn U1 will be a permanent resident.
So in my brash arrogance I decided to let everyone know what is being delivered today in August 2015.
1. I found the quality as advertised very nice, the color of the stainless is much darker than expected
2. A simple gentle shake and it started and has run (wearing it) for 2 weeks now
3. Has good/decent power reserve.
4. Seems to be spot on as far as speed, pretty much dead on. Maybe 2-7 seconds a day fast, which for a Rep is damn good!
5. The AR is excellent as others have said
6. The weight/mass of the watch/strap on my wrist is balanced, what I mean here is the mass of the watch Vs. the mass of the clasp/buckle with the way the rubber strap it stays centered on my wrist, it does not "sag"
7. While I like the buckle/clasp for the way it operates, I dislike the wrist diameter adjustment aspects of this design, in fact I'll go on record in saying it sucks.
7B. When adjusting this band initially you cut the rubber, equally per side, no issue there, but once adjusted it can be 1 notch lose from wrist and it wears like a metal band, ok not bad, but not like a real rubber band, adjust the band with firm tightness on your wrist, and yes it's ok, but while the band is now fitted, but what if you start working out you have to buy another rubber strap as the strap has no fine adjustment to it. This is want I do not like. With me, it's either tight or lose. And once adjusted for tight, there's no coming back..hbbbbt:
8. This watch has a "as-stated" Swiss Eta 2836-2 Auto movement, 28800bhp and I have so far no reason to dispute this, I will pull the back off in the next couple of weeks to confirm. It sounds a little different than the Asian 2836-2's when a gentle shake to wind I have to admit it's a nice movement so far.
9. The LUM as many said is decent, almost bright, wrong color, but the decent almost bright aspect makes up for the wrong color IMHO.
10. Even with the supplied strap I find the weight actually nice, light compared to my Breitling's, lol!!
11. This watch is pleasant to look at on my wrist, I like the face/hands very much. I enjoy the simplicity of design, the execution from the Gen to this Rep is IMHO very nice. especially for a Rep with a stated Swiss movement under $240.00, Sweet!!
So moving forward with this Sinn U1 I'm already buying a 22mm new soft rubber strap from Strapped for Time, with a standard buckle. As I feel that this watch deserves a band that can be adjusted, easily.
(Sidebar) I like a rubber strap that fits firm/solid, but nothing that restricts circulation and feels like a second skin, my daily beater is a Blacksteel Skyland Avenger 45mm with an soft rubber strap (not the super hard one that comes on this watch)
Thanks for reading
