Well, here is a story of my SMP Chrono I got from a great member black_shark some weeks ago. I wanted to make it a Franken but atm I have no funds. Here it is, no mods done (picture from black_shark):

Luckily I got a gen insert without a pearl from another great member TheCold for free! He only used the pearl. I installed it the same day the watch arrived :) It was a direct fit. I used a rep pearl with it. It is not in a good condition but beats the rep 100-0.

Then as you know I have some business with a sapphire factory and an AR coating lab. I bought a spare crystal from Mr. Pap (thanks again mate!) and sent it to the lab for a new AR coating test. The last 45.5 mm UPO crystals have really good AR but I wanted to get rid of the bluish tint. The factory said they can do it colorless.

The crystal came back after travelling 2 weeks around the world. I thought for a second that I will send parts to Wiz but I wanted to see the results right away! It is a hit and miss with me, 75 % possibility that I will break the keyless :) Well to be honest, I have a history of having 9/10 watches working after the installation of a stem.

I took some comparison shots of my Franken UPO that has one of the best ARs in the industry. Here you can see the old stock crystal that has no AR as far as I know.

It is a shame that this beautiful dial is under the foggy crystal!

Then only one picture of the process of changing the crystal. I had really hard time to get the movement holder off because it was really stuck. The movement was looking very nice and it was certainly just serviced because it was so clean. It took me 1.5 hours to do this job.

Then the finished product. Stem went in without problems so I was really happy! And the new AR: amazing, simply amazing! Pictures.

Here I tried to capture reflections, gen Omega has just a bit of purple reflection, my new AR has pretty natural color reflection. No signs of blue.

And the watch:

Where is the crystal???

I am really starting to think of doing crystals for the 42 mm PO with this AR coating. It would be a killer!

I have already ordered a Hirsch Obsession 2 leather strap and an Omega rep rubber strap for this. Hirsch should arrive soon so I will post some more pics.

When I get funds, I think I will send the watch to Wiz and get the subdial hands and DW changed. Maybe lume job also :)

So what do you think? I know Mr. Pap will be jealous because he is still waiting for his Franken to arrive back home :) Well, it will be something different than this when it will be done! I would not call this a Franken yet.

Very nice job, the crystal makes the watch so much better.

Thanks, it is a must mod for this version! When the old crystal was on, I asked my wife what she thinks about the blue dial, she said she cannot see it :)

Looks fantastic sunnydale, those crystals are amazing, better than the gen smp AR by a long margin. Great work!

Thanks guys! I am starting to wonder what version is this? It has no happy feet logo (updated version) but the Omega lettering is wrong on the dial (older version). It uses pins instead of screws on bracelet (first version). DW seems to be asian (newer versions) so not right.

Any specialists?

Nice watch! I'm hoping to do the same mods on mine someday.

Was there a special method to take out the movement holder!? I couldn't quite figure out what to do after taking out the small screws holding the movement down, so I just gave up there. It was very stuck indeed!

Wow, what a difference that AR job makes. Who did the AR? Was it a professional company?

I just used pliers and screwdrivers. It took me at least 30 mins and now the holder looks pretty used :)

It is a great AR, I cannot stop looking at that dial now :) Comparable to a gen Omega AR and even with a great AR rep Sinns have.

I have a direct contact to a sapphire manufacturer and they use this prof lab to make the AR coatings. So I don't even know the company name but I know they make these a lot. Turnaround for this sample was around 2 days :)

While waiting for the new straps, I took some photos while cooking :) The gen insert is pretty beaten up but thank God it does not look that bad IRL.

Your project came out beautiful sunnydale. There was a time where I couldn't stand a scratched up watch but now a days I seem to like the "wear" more and more. Creates character I think...I'm struggling with the same thing on my FrPO. I bought a used bezel and it has a faint scratch on it :)

Here are some of my gen SMP Chrono photos for comparison, again great job!

Modding the chronos can be addictive. I am debating installing my gen He valve on this one (already swapped out a gen dial, hour and minute hands).....

Hi mate,

I love your gen...it was THE reason I wanted this newer dial, simply stunning. But I might have a better AR than you have :) LOL

I am looking for a better bezel, this is really too much beaten up. Might get it soon :)

These look great. SMP is smaller in size than UPO but still very impressive. I have to say that after giving a try for two different kind of straps, leather and rubber, SS is the only one to go with this watch.

With UPO on the other hand rubber is a nice option. I had rubber for months and Mr. Pap said the same.
