Well, here is a story of my SMP Chrono I got from a great member black_shark some weeks ago. I wanted to make it a Franken but atm I have no funds. Here it is, no mods done (picture from black_shark):
Luckily I got a gen insert without a pearl from another great member TheCold for free! He only used the pearl. I installed it the same day the watch arrived It was a direct fit. I used a rep pearl with it. It is not in a good condition but beats the rep 100-0.
Then as you know I have some business with a sapphire factory and an AR coating lab. I bought a spare crystal from Mr. Pap (thanks again mate!) and sent it to the lab for a new AR coating test. The last 45.5 mm UPO crystals have really good AR but I wanted to get rid of the bluish tint. The factory said they can do it colorless.
The crystal came back after travelling 2 weeks around the world. I thought for a second that I will send parts to Wiz but I wanted to see the results right away! It is a hit and miss with me, 75 % possibility that I will break the keyless Well to be honest, I have a history of having 9/10 watches working after the installation of a stem.
I took some comparison shots of my Franken UPO that has one of the best ARs in the industry. Here you can see the old stock crystal that has no AR as far as I know.
It is a shame that this beautiful dial is under the foggy crystal!
Then only one picture of the process of changing the crystal. I had really hard time to get the movement holder off because it was really stuck. The movement was looking very nice and it was certainly just serviced because it was so clean. It took me 1.5 hours to do this job.
Then the finished product. Stem went in without problems so I was really happy! And the new AR: amazing, simply amazing! Pictures.
Here I tried to capture reflections, gen Omega has just a bit of purple reflection, my new AR has pretty natural color reflection. No signs of blue.
And the watch:
Where is the crystal???
I am really starting to think of doing crystals for the 42 mm PO with this AR coating. It would be a killer!
I have already ordered a Hirsch Obsession 2 leather strap and an Omega rep rubber strap for this. Hirsch should arrive soon so I will post some more pics.
When I get funds, I think I will send the watch to Wiz and get the subdial hands and DW changed. Maybe lume job also
So what do you think? I know Mr. Pap will be jealous because he is still waiting for his Franken to arrive back home Well, it will be something different than this when it will be done! I would not call this a Franken yet.
