“This is my story. I have ordered my first 21st Century Chinese replica. However, my wife of more than 20 years is also Chinese, and I can promise she is 100% Gen. Her original parts are still working well yet she needs frequent servicing.
I opted for this new Calatrava design that has been greeted with some controversy in sniffy-luxe watch circles. Yet, a watch must reflect one’s own tastes and not worn to impress the tastes of others. I’m an artist, at least on a good day. What I wear reflects an informal yet design-centric aesthetic.
Thus, my first replica (of this era) is the PPF Patek Philippe Calatrava 6007G in yellow, introduced by Patek in 2023. I began my new addiction scanning countless threads here at RWI. This first post is enthusiastically dedicated in thanks to all of you who have shared vast wisdom along this timely path. I absorbed all I could here before deciding to place my first order through an RWI recommended TD.
These images are of my just delivered watch other than two with the grey background. Patek Super Clone 26-330 S C Movement: Miyota 9015 With Decorated Bridges and Plates / 40mm x 10mm / Stainless Steel 316F Case. Through RWI research, I knew which rendition I was seeking before ordering. Three factories have thus far produced this new Patek 6007G design. PPF recently released its version that improves upon GS too small DW font sizing, seemingly getting quite close to GEN.
This watch will wear my wrist very soon—it was just delivered to my wife who is visiting Guangzhou. She will personally courier it to me across the Pacific with no sir-charge. As a well-known photographer, I am no stranger to a loupe and respected for a keen and detailed eye. I’m a mere grasshopper of a beginner here. One new review of this PPF version encouragingly calls it a Super Clone. At 10mm it is nearly 1mm thicker than the Gen at 9.17. The ZF version of its forebearer, the 6007A, is listed on the RWI Consensual First-Class NWBIG list. The ZF made the list despite being 10.5mm as opposed to the GEN at 9.07. Isn’t thickness a key consideration to be NWBIG?
Regarding my newbie replica knowledge, I am fortunate to be able to choose when to splurge on a Gen. (Yet, a Tiffany 5711 is not in the plan.) Astutely purchased, the best Gen can indeed be a strong investment—if a watch holds its value and gives pleasure in the interim—count me in! But I’m also the kind of person who loves the research and execution of good taste meeting the good deal. I enthusiastically support capitalism, live my life genuinely, yet have zero problem wearing the art of emulation. In fact, a few years ago I went to an amazing exhibit of many of the most famous art fakes in history. Fascinating stuff—you have to admire the attention to detail. I also admire this aesthetic of excellence front and center here at RWI. Besides, with the Gen market presently in a downturn—here’s hoping it recovers soon. Somewhat expert in the volatile market of technology investing, the old adage is true: “Never try to catch a falling knife.”
As this early addiction stage, I remain smitten with Patek and may next choose from among these classics: The confidently athletic Aquanaut 5167, stately Nautilus 5711, or the assuredly mathematical Calatrava 5296G Sector Dial. This 6007G features yellow accents but if you don’t like its design, I sure hope you will kindly not piss on me, particularly since this is my first post.
Group, I have already taken too much of your valuable time. As I stood up to introduce myself, I said this is my first 21st Century Rep. In 1999, in Thailand, I bought what was then THE state-of-the-art fashion watch: The Bulgari Aluminum AL38. “A black rubber strap on a luxury watch? You gotta be kiddin’ man!” I lucked into a Rep so good that the Bulgari store folks have always welcomed me as an honored guest of their (increasingly gaudy) tribe. Back then, quartz was not yet completely uncool. Realizing it needed to engineer new automatics, Bulgari subsequently bought up a couple of venerable Swiss factories. As many of you know, the now classic Aluminum was re-issued in 2020 as a near-identical 40mm automatic. I may pick one up, but my original is still lookin’ great. After recent servicing, it’s spinnin’ strong. As a dutiful addict, I do promise to service my watches with the same zeal and precision I put into servicing the Mrs.”
