congrats on your new hobby. Don't forget, stitching adds strength. It's also a major portion of the learning curve w/ regards to leatherworking.

 I think the 1st few stitching attempts cause about 50% of would-be strapmakers to throw in the towel. No one could possibly get it right out of the gate.

Look at you with a fancy stitching pony! I beat my pony into submission! :beatahorse:

I still don't have a stitching pony.... just a two hand juggling act..

If you don't screw up a couple straps you're better than all of us.

My pile of early on practice and the occasional slip up..

From start to finish you're a **** hair away from ruining the strap.

And having seen and held some of your straps, I can honestly say that your two hand juggling act results in some very desirable straps.

Your bench looks a damn sight tidier than mine too !!!

You should see it when I'm in the middle of a strap..

I bought everything at Lowes for that stitch pony for around $12 bucks.

premium pine board 1" x 4" x 6'
1 piece of 1/4" all thread
various 1/4" hardware and wing nuts
heavy duty hinges.

The only modification I need to make is its a two hand operation to get the pony to tighten down on the strap. That would be fine if I had a third hand to hold the strap in place while screwing it down.

This type is really made to sit on so that you can sit in a chair and stitch comfortably. Thanks Tootall for the idea.

Yeah I seen plans for that type, you've done a real good job. Why don't you use a clamp as a 'third' hand to temp hold the pony jaws shut while you position the strap than tighten up the wing nut ...
