I'm new to the forum but I thought I'd share my experience of: ReplicaWatchesChina.com.

[MODERATOR NOTE: THIS IS NOT A TRUSTED DEALER FROM RWI. BUY FROM THIS DEALER AT YOUR OWN RISK.]

I was looking for a cheap replica watch and thought I'd order one just for kicks really and stumbled across the aforementioned site via a Google search a few weeks before Xmas. I'm a complete Noob and have never owned a 'quality' or replica watch.

On the site I noticed that if you ordered 2 you get free postage so I went with that and ordered a Glashutte Senator (never heard of them, a German brand apparently, but like the 60's look) and a black Tag Formula One with an Orange dial. They worked out about £45 each and I waited for them to arrive.

About 10 days later I received the watches to the UK, on initial inspection I thought the Glashutte looked pretty good, liked the automatic movement with the '4 or 5 ticks a second' second hand, the finish on the design of the watch face, the strap was decent leather and the dials worked as expected.

The quartz Tag was pretty bad to be honest, the dials kind of twitched like they were trying to unstick themselves and did other random movements when the buttons ware pressed. The watch face was badly finished and the bracelet looked cheap. The overall impression was of a watch that was only a slight notch above the type you could have bought on any beach in Spain. It currently resides in a drawer waiting to be given to an unsuspecting family member as a birthday gift!

I thought I'd wear the Glashutte for a few days as a work watch, turned out I had to be careful putting it on as sometimes the strap buckle would come off! I got used to this as still enjoyed wearing it.

I showed it to my cousin over Christmas, I took it off and he commented on how clear the glass was, so clear in fact that he could touch the dial hands - the glass face had fallen out! I found it on the carpet (turned out it wasn’t glass but plastic!) and I eventually ran some superglue around the rim and stuck it back in. Quality repair!

Undeterred, I continued to wear it. A few days later, I pressed on of the dial buttons on the side of the watch and eventually one of the dial hands pinged off! I emailed replicawatcheschina.com and they basically said to send it back or take it to a watch shop for repairs and they would offer me a discount on my next order. Well, I couldn't be arsed to send it back so decided to take them up on their offer of a discount.

In the mean time I had a go at repairing the watch myself with a 'precision' screwdriver. I got the back off easily then, as a pro watch repairer (hmmph), I started unscrewing the movement in order to get the spindle out in order to get to the face and stick on the dial hand. A few seconds later, there were cogs and springs everywhere! I promptly placed the dead Glashutte in the bin (kept the leather strap though, ha-ha!).

You may think, as my wife did, that after this experience I would give up on replicawatcheschina.com but NO! I have been offered a 20% discount on my next order and have decided to go for another 2 watches! This time an 'Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra' and a 'TAG Carrera Caliber 5'. My reasoning for these choices is straight forward. I figure that you've got to keep it simple at this end of the market - no dials or anything complicated, these are pretty basic designs but lets hope they can do simple date changers! I've also realised I prefer automatc to quartz, just seems like they've made an effort!

I can see why you guys run this site, it's a bit addictive looking for and buying this stuff on the off chance you might get something decent! I’ll keep you posted on the next shipment, and post some photo's this time, should be here shortly!

Cheers,

Mister_Dee

I must say, some may find it odd that after such an abysmal experience with a dealer you'd be willing to go back to them just because they offered you a discount on their (seemingly terrible quality) products. In this hobby, it's mostly wise (although not applicable in every case) to adhere to the saying 'you get what you pay for'.

As Coldi suggested, if I were you, I'd stick to the trusted dealers here. You might pay a bit more, but the service and product are far, far superior to what you'll get elsewhere. Good luck with your watches though, hopefully they'll be better than the first two. :)

If you do, your next experience will be infintely better. If you enjoyed wearing a lower-quality rep, you'll LOVE wearing some of the ones floating around here. Welcome aboard!

Hi mister dee, I admire your honesty in posting this report. I was fortunate enough to find this fine forum before I got my first rep. As said before, you do get what you pay for. In a very short while I've bought 5 Omega reps and one original Bulova.

Two were new, both from Trusted Dealers on the listing here.

WakoBirdKeeper who ships from USA, so darn quick you ain't gonna believe it and one from Watch Eden who ships from China.

Try and spend the extra for a higher quality rep, it's well worth it.

Good luck, Phil

Hi, Mr_Dee!

Congratulations on your courage for admitting to being scammed. Believe me, you are NOT alone on that experience. As Coldi and other forum members have said, stick with the Trusted Dealers listed here -- or purchase from some of the members themselives. You're surrounded by good, honest people. Welcome to RWI!!

any update on 'Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra' and a 'TAG Carrera Caliber 5'

Yes, I got them a few weeks back. They look pretty good to me but they definitely aren't 1:1 reps or anything - obviously in the economy range.

My photos aren't that good but you get the idea...

Here's the Omega:

omega1r.jpg

The Omega is a Seamaster but has a planet ocean strap - still it looks pretty good. The watch face is grooved which looks good but the seamaster logo and the 'Co-Axial' type face is printed directly on to the watch face rather that on a plate. This means that some of the text goes into the grovves which isn't so good. Overall for $70 it could have been worse!

And here's the Tag:

tag1x.jpg

The Tag watch looks good now that I've made a few adjustments since the pic was taken. I bought myself a watchmakers repair kit and replace the strap pins and the others were bent. I also removed the face from the watch and relaid the hands as when it was 6 o'clock they weren't pointing to exactly 6 o'clock if you know what I mean, they were a bit wonky. It's good experience trying out this stuff on a watch you only paid $60 for - I guess if they were more expensive I might have thought twice. Also, notice how the bezel font is wrong and a bit wonky but can't do anything about that!

They are both asian automatics - keep good time and charge for around 30 hours, you can also wind them up if you wish.

Anyways, I'll not be buying anymore shyte from them (even though I quite like the Omega)!

I have since been in touch with Jee from Silix-Prime after recommendations for this site. He's great, good comms and does some cracking deals. Got a nice Rolex explorer for $29.99 plus postage. When it turned up I couldn't believe how small they are (about 35mm face in diameter) I have wrists like Shrek but one of my friends wants it so I'm going to pass it on. I have another Mont Blanc Timewalker on order from Jee and a Rolex Daytona - looking forward to getting them soon!

Cheers!

Really you've been messing around with $20 junk that doesn't qualify to be called a replica.

Try a real rep and you'll be amazed.
