My Experience At 2 ADs Yesterday

Check this out. I stopped into two different ADs yesterday. In one I looked at both Tags and Rolex. The AD told me there is a new sub coming out with the ceramic bezel and new bracelet - but that's not the important part. I looked at a $6,000.00 sub and the f'n bezel would not line up at the 12. Could you imagine spending $6k on a new sub and not having the bezel line up properly.

Then, I stopped by the Cariter dealer and looked at a Santos Galbee (I love that watch). On this one, the f'n date wheel was off to the left (just like on my rep - ha ha, apparently my rep is more accurate than I thought  ). $4,100.00 for that piece of high quality control.

Just thought I'd pass that on. If you're taking a loop to your rep and obsessing on the mis-aligned date wheel, or you need to take a hair dryer to the bezel insert - at least you didn't spend $6,000.00 !!!

Don't you at least get a cup of coffee along with your new Gen? And a Thank You card in the mail? Those important service items are worth, say, two grand alone

Yes - free coffee, cards, baloons, and all the Vaseline you need.

I heard that Rolex is offering a complimentary hair dryer with the purchase of a new Sub.

Since I wrote a whole article on this, here's some food for thought. If all the datewheels are like that on the gen then it's not wrong is it? Even if they're different from gen to gen they're still gen thus authentically gen.

I tell this story sometimes. I went to the store and bought some Kraft Romano cheese. Comes in a red topped container. Well all the ones on the shelf that day had green tops like the Parmesan. Does that mean it wasn't real? No they ran out of red tops and management made a call.

Loose example but I have this recurring nightmare. In it I am building a fakey brand watch. And in the process I ran out of the normal winder heads. So I use some that are slightly different. Then later on I run into this loon on a forum telling me my own stuff wasn't accurate to gen.

I think my biggest problem is the whole "you get what you pay for" thing.

What I mean, is that if I buy a pinto and the trim falls off - I kinda expect it. But if I buy a benz I'm going for the attention to detail and lower volume / higher quality thing. Well, apparently no more. In addition to the watches I saw yesterday - a few years ago I bought a new ML 350. The f'n thing fell apart for the first year or two until I finally got so fed up I traded it in.

What a load of crap, that any dealer would charge VERY high end prices and pump out total sh!t. If a $100 watch built by kids in China doesn't line up - fine. But a $6k gen  .

yes, fakey already talked about gen flaws are just as common as rep flaws, but this is still a good read.

we are also people armed with knowledge of extreme detail and also know what to look for. a real watch enthusiast would not buy a gen with any sort of flaw nor buy on the spot. at least they have the option of picking, choosing, and handling the watch before they purchase. if a salesmen can sell a cartier with a jacked datewheel to a buyer than that person doesnt deserve a perfect gen...

+1

And deserves to be ripped. [but at least they got free coffee and Vaseline in the process]

they also get a full warranty that can be used to fix any little inconsistency they may find in their new watch.

Very true - but one can argue those flaws should be caught during the QC and fixed before it hits the floor at a luxury dealer of any sort (hell, if I were the dealer I'd catch it before I put it out).
