I am looking at a rep that has a 2836-2 movement in it. I was wondering. Upon receiving the item can I tell what it is specifically by just looking at it? Also can someone describe to me the differences between a 2836 and a 2836-2?

Thanks

It should be gold colored and have eta 2836-2 inscribed on it. I just had to go through this myself.

Edit - obv the coloring doesn't mean a damn thing but most Asian clones are not this color.

1. ETA could be goldplated or nickel plated.
2. Clones too.
3. 2836 is not in production for ages. Only 2836-2.

You should expect and assume you will be getting a clone movement and not a gen ETA so don't pay the extra for the ETA its not worth it.

+1 agree with sub4me. 2836-2's were stamped with exactly that, "2836-2" on the movement plate, but that can and has been cloned too. Many swiss movements, if actually real Eternas, are still dirty factory returns or refurbs because that's what they can get cheaply. More serviceable, yes, but only sure fire way to know and trust a movement is to have a gen swiss installed yourself. Or buy gen or used gen which I sometimes can't control myself and do.
