Just buy a good rep m2m bettarini case, be it 111, 005, 176, 177, or maybe something more fun. And you will understand that there are a lot of different interesting things that guys have been discussing for 15 years...
(well, I'm literally a couple) :D

In your opinion, being that the earlier PAM 005/111 had the unitas 6497 decorated/modified by Panerai, do you think a genuine Panerai is really worth the premium over a good rep that you franken? I could possibly pick up a gen PAM OPix movement for like $1000 and put it in a PAM 111 or 005 rep and have a pretty decent setup it seems for less than $1,500. Add another $500-600 for a dial and hands and now it is even more legitimate. My only concern with reps is the waterproofing as you said earlier, some imperfections make it difficult to guarantee a proper water resistance. I like the Panerai history/heritage so paying a genuine premium does hold some weight to say its a gen product. But functionality and just to wear and beat on and enjoy, a franken rep may be better as well.

I think if you buy OP.X for $1000 you will have a PM meteor shower right now. However, you are free to do what you think is best. Good luck.

Lets put the question this way: Where do you want to buy a Gen-Pam-Movement?

I have seen a couple pop up on chrono24 and ebay at times. Not necessarily a 6497, but a P.3000 or P.9000. They are not as available as rolex movements. but not sure what the price point is for these genuine PAM movements esp the ETA versions.

Better yet, why does OP want to buy a gen PAM movement for a POS watch.

Not looking to get a gen movement for the current watch I posted about. I was asking what is market price for gen PAM ETA movements if I was to buy a Noob or XF rep and then start a franken build.

If you have deep pockets and want to spend real money, you might search for a Pam 111 with Marlin Mods - here for example. This is as close to the Gen as a Rep can get. For little more money you can also go Gen. A good handwind Pam should be available for 4k to 5k.
