Funnily enough I'm in a similar boat to you OP. I bought a gen Sub 126610LN about a month ago and I'm thinking about flipping as I'm just too cautious to ever wear it! I know, seems crazy

Genuinely considering selling it and then just buy a rep 126610LN with a few gen parts (dial, hands, date wheel and bezel should do the trick) as I think even the gen bracelets on some of the sub reps are pretty much spot on

You will probably save quite a far bit of money after selling the Gen Sub and getting a rep VSF Sub 126610LN and modding it with the parts.

Cheers.

Looking back I regret buying my gen sub. I mean for 5,5-6k you get 3132 movement Explorers in my size (39/40).

Would buy a Clean 126610LN and change xtal to gen, click springs, and thats it. nothing more to do IMO.
Then you can buy 9-12 Submariners instead of 1 :D

No regrets buddy.

At least this genuine Submariner can make you some money if you bought RRP from a local AD.

Use the money that you made for many other better stuff.

Hi guys,

I'm very much a newbie, to both watches in general and even more so to replica watches. So I bought a gen Rolex earlier this year, which I love but don't want to wear day to day for obvious reasons, it's more a weekend and going out with the Mrs type watch.

So it has given me the buzz for watches.... Which I don't know is a good or bad thing! I'm now looking for something cheaper to wear everyday, which brought me to this forum. Now, I'm probably asking this in the wrong place (bearing in mind this is a replica watch forum!) but would I be better spending my money on a really good replica or a low end gen watch (an example i have looked at is a Christopher ward C63 Valour) i have around £500-600 to spend.... Thoughts and advice would be very much appreciated.

As I say, very much a newbie in all areas so any thoughts and advice is warmly welcomed.
Hi, I understand perfectly your “state of mind” . I’d buy surely a perfect Superclone . Welcome and greetings .

I would also encourage you to look at vintage Rolex Subs.
4digits or 5 digits
Frequently listed on M2M

As beater watches, they are just awesome.
The good things are that
1. You don’t really care if they get scratched, they are supposed to look old
2. They are less blingy than modern Subs, while being unmistakably Rolexes
3. You might get one quick if the seller is in your region

First off, welcome to the forum. I'm new as well, so it's good to have another newbie to learn with. I've been here for only a couple of months and have learned a bunch and spent just as much...lol. It is surely a slippery slope, but a fun one!

The best part about this community is that, not only will you learn a lot about reps, you will learn more about gens and watchmaking in general. Rep lovers/collectors, IMO, know more about watches than gen collectors (for the most part). The community here loves to learn about every intricate part of a watch, whatever the brand, and find out what makes it tick...or sweep (pun intended). I am actually waiting on some new watch tools to come in tomorrow as the bug has bitten me to start disecting and learning all I can about this phenomenal world of horology/timepieces.

Buckle up and enjoy the ride! I know I am. The quality of the reps today, versus many years ago, are fantastic and some are hard to distinguish from the gen as stated above. Take your time, read the older threads, and learn. You'll be talking the lingo, typing acronyms, and probably teaching us a thing or two before long! Cheers!

There's a simple answer to your question: depends.

If you have a budget of, say close to $1K, you need to determine if you the watch you'll be wearing daily to work shall read "Rolex" on the dial or not.

That, in turn, may depend on what you are doing day in, day out. If you live in an office environment or high end sales, that might work out well. If you are doing hard labor or have a blue collar job, I'd rather choose another watch.

For around $900, there are tons of options: pretty much any high end replica, except for RM, as well as high quality GENs, such as Ginault, Hamilton, Squale, Seiko and many independents such as Christopher Ward and others.

On the note of CW, for the clueless around here, CW makes two high end watches that get even respect from folks who own GEN Pateks: the C1 Moonphase and the Bel Canto Minute Repeater chime watch. Both are pure watch porn and an outright bargain in the watch universe, and they are GENs.

I personally would never buy a replica of a watch that I can't afford in its original version. I had the chance to see a saleswoman in a store who was wearing an Audemars Piguet Royal Oak. I don't understand the point of that... If you really like the watch and know you can't afford the original, then I would choose an homage instead.

I'm with you there.

But with "I could buy it if I really wanted to" I mean that if I really wanted to, I could buy a (used) Rolls Royce or Bentley or Ferrari. I actually owned all of those and quite a few others during the years, but these days I don't want to drive an expensive car anymore. I just lost interest as I got older. So if I wanted to own a $100K watch with all my heart, I surely could afford to buy one, but I wouldn't want spend that kind of money on a watch.

So I could pull off a $100K watch, even though I'm driving a normal and quite affordable car. My former business partner, now retired and worth 7 figures, still drives his 2002 Buick Park Avenue and still wears his late father's solid gold Rolex quite often.

What I could not pull off is an RM, or a Rainbow Daytona, or a Patek Philippe Tiffany, so that's watches I stay away from.

So perhaps the "saleswoman" in the store you met is part of the family that owns the store, and she got that watch from daddy when graduating. We don't know. That's why we say the wearer is the biggest tell. It most often works, but it doesn't always work.

When the dial says 'automatic' and the second hand ticks, we can be sure that it's a replica, unless someone was creative and ambitious enough to do a swap of the automatic mechanism with a quartz one. :)

The Audemar Piguet in 33mm are quartz from the factory. That's why they are 7.3mm thin. No need to write "Automatic" on the dial . . .

On the mentioned watch, the "automatic" label was clearly highlighted on the dial.
