Hi Folks,

A long story short.
  • Chose watch
  • Paid it with BitCoin Payment - Special instructions will be sent via email - I was looking for the 5% discount - see email attached with no warning of specific Crypto Currency
  • Had to open a BitCoin account
  • Bought BitCoin, commission is nearly at 7%
  • New to Crypto Currency, I paid $464 in BitCoin Cash instead of BitCoin
  • BitCoin Cash went out of my BitCoin Wallet
  • Andrew said he never got it due to different payment Crypto Currency
  • Contacted BitCoin Support service (screenshot attached)
  • Contacted back Andrew and he said: "I asked my payment guy to try and they say they are not able to retrieve"
$464 down the drain due to technical incompetence of the guys Andrew is working with

Great Experience!!!!!!!!!! Highly Recommended!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Andrew may use a hot web wallet, such as Coinbase or Binance, thus not giving him access to the private keys. It's possible that he really doesn't have the funds.

The mistake here was sending the wrong cryptocurrency.

As I said in a later post:

It's like throwing a stack of money over a firepit to your friend, but it lands in the firepit. And then you blame your friend for not being able to retrieve the obliterated money.

You guys are funny!!!

The flexibility of accepting different Crypto Currencies is there.
Andrew has not the system flexibility neither the willingness to recover the money sent.

What would you do if MichaelXX is trying to lodge €1000 in your US bank account but the bank refuses it because you account can only accept $?
Would you tell MichaelXX to change currency or would you try to deal with the bank to get the money in?

Think about it!!!!

I lost 800 at my massage parlor.

Throwing money at a massage parlor is well invested money.

I’ve edited your post for the TL;DR version.

You made the mistake. So how does it then become Andrew’s fault, or his responsibility to sort out your foul up?

It’s not that easy when you’re selling illegal goods....with cash being sent to multiple accounts under different names....whilst trying to evade authorities (and presumably the taxman as well).

Try paying your electricity bill (or whatever) using the incorrect method and see if the utility company goes out of its way to “recover” funds for you. It’s not gonna happen. Unfortunately you need to sort this on your end.

Note to others, don’t pay by crypto if you ain’t got a clue.

I would tell MichaelXX “sorry, we only accept $, not Euros, as clearly written in our order form” like any other business, it’s not their responsibility to make sure you under how money works.

There's no way to chargeback when you pay with crypto that I know of. I'd be happy to be educated though.

I'm taking notes....
I've never used crypto to make any purchases. So in essence, different type of cryptos are not compatible with each other and if mistakes were made crypto goes poof. There is no conversion like when doing bank transfer (USD to CAD, SGD to IDR etc). Interesting...

Correct.

You have a wallet for a specific coin. Say Bitcoin (BTC). It accepts Bitcoin into the wallet.

You cannot send payment in other coins, like Ethereum, to that address. Bad things will ensue.

Saying Andrew's team is incompetent because he can't magically reverse an uncrackable mathematical hashing technique to encrypt blockchain wallets, makes you my friend, look incompetent, not Andrew being the incompetent one.

And you didn't contact "bitcoin support" You contacted the support of the crypto exchange you bought your cryptocurrency from. Bitcoin does not have a central figure of authority, and no one controls it. You send bitcoin, worth money, to an address, all nodes agree on the transaction and it is solidified in a public ledger forever. No one can reverse a bitcoin transaction.

You could send money to an address named "IWANTAWATCH" and it will go there. Of course modern software would prevent wrongly formatted bitcoin addresses, but the only way to retrieve those funds (to my knowledge, please correct me if I'm wrong) is to hit pot luck and mathematically calculate a corresponding private key that matches the public key. This won't happen for the reason that 1) the generation technique ends up with a set sequence of letters and numbers, 2) there are more possibilities that could be generated than atoms in the universe.

It's like throwing a stack of money over a firepit to your friend, but it lands in the firepit. And then you blame your friend for not being able to retrieve the obliterated money.

There is no technical incompetency here, only a simple mistake that you took. The number one rule when dealing with sending crypto, is sending the right crypto.

If anyone wants to correct me on the technicalities of crypto go ahead.
