Well reeder. that's a valid question. There are a few that really like the horological aspect of it. I am one of them. But I can count them on one hand probably. The overwhelming reason people buy them are for the purposes you described. Is it wrong? Well as I said I don't judge anyone. What I have a problem with is how so many on the fora get all offended and deny it. I mean seriously what is the big deal about admitting it like you just did? As far as what the watches bring you I would offer this advice which I gave in another thread:

Interestingly, you can add me to those you're counting on one hand fakemaster even though now and again, I do use these watches to show off. You may or may not have seen my "new workshop thread":-
http://forum.replica-watch.info/vb/...repair-48696?t=48696&highlight=watch+workshop

But I am in fact fascinated by horology and have become fairly competent at repairing and servicing many automatic movements. To the extent that I'm currently trying to get a place at the British school of watchmaking starting after I graduate this year. I actually have a meeting with the human resources director of swatch UK next month who may end up sponsoring me to do so, so fingers crossed.

Sadly, if I do get a place, my replica watch hobby will probably have to end or be kept on the very low.

Sorry that was off topic but just wanted to explain.

Reeder, I think that's fascinating. And kudos to you for pursuing your passion. Which actually reminds me of one other aspect of this hobby of ours. Before I joined this forum and became interested in reps, my idea of a really fancy watch was a $600 Movado. I thought Rolexes were pretty ugly, and I couldn't tell the difference between an Omega and a Panerai. Fast forward to today-- I subscribe to two different watch magazines, I frequent timezone, and I am constantly on the lookout for interesting watch news.

Here's my point. Because of the rep market, I became interested in not just reps, but watches in general. And it's an interest I would have never been able to cultivate had I not had the opportunity presented by reps. And I can tell you that I've seen a real trend in the last few years-- that of people buying more and more expensive reps, only to graduate to gens after they obtain a true passion for watchmaking.

When I joined this board, it was really about living the $$$ lifestyle on the cheap - I don't think there is too much wrong with that... Its sure as hell better than buying a gen on overdraft...

But a couple months on and I like these pieces not from a "which piece can I fool the most people with," but which tugs on my strings and has me saying "I love that!"

I've spent quite a few hours in the real world talking watches with ADs, used-watch dealers, watchsmiths; reading watch magazines and catalogues. There is something terribly endearing about seeing a man hunched over a stool with an eye glass clenched between his eyelids, and manipulating the cogs inside a tiny circle with better-than-surgical precision. The profession at its heart hasn't changed much in well over a hundred years. Change the guys clothes and you could be in a different century. Can one say that about any other trade?

Watch this and tell me how it makes you feel....

I have yet to see a super rep of a datejust watch. The crystal height is ALWAYS incorrect, not to mention that the case size is actually questionable. Also the extendable new style clasp rolex crown logo is incorrectly done. Otherwise yeah they look nice. I doubt they take gen parts though, besides the dial and possibly crown/tube. I know that the turn o graph datejust doesn't take the gen crystal and does have incorrect case diameter. I wonder why they don't fix these things :)
