This is a vintage Russian watch with a true history. It is the watch that Mikhail Gorbachev used to wear. At least on one occasion in Italy where he was asked what Perestroika meant to the Russian people (Perestroika means 'reform' and over the 80's-90's famous for its political significance).
Gorbachev lifted his arm and showed them the watch, the Raketa Big Zero, and answered 'We in Russia believe that everything (re)starts at 0".

There's an interesting review of the watch here
http://wornandwound.com/affordable-vintage-raketa-big-zero/

I bought this watch in Riga (Letland), they were part of the USSR before the fall of the Berlin wall and the disassemblement of the USSR.
It's a hand wound mechanism.

A link to the technical details of the movement

A good original one will cost you like $150. You can find them on eBay but you need to beware of the many copies and fakes that are offered there, especially the dials are often repainted.

This is a very nice one :)

It ticks kind of loud?
Nice Tudor. That ticking is so you know you havent lost it. Haha
The 7734 in my Monte Carlo sounds like a sewing machine. [emoji6]

Of course its not a bad thing to have one serviced every decade or so. Haha

That always seems to quieten them down.

Some very nice examples here. Really envious of them. I prefer collecting vintage to be honest. Gen 1982 Rolex op Date. Gen Omega Geneva from 60s or 70s not sure. And some of my reps. The 5517 dial really annoys me as the 'T' is too low and the lower submariner text.

Getting To Know The Place

My heart whispered that my creations wouldn't be complete if I hadn't made a time machine for my wife.

So out came my custom dial and I started doing my try at ageing the dial. Tried a combination of burnt sienna pigment + diluted gelatine as a first top coat. Then I did a first seal with matte clear. Then went on to do a combined job of adding not so strong black coffee in small droplets , spreading it out on the dial and quickly drying it using a blow dryer. Once dried, the dial showed up a unique yellowish brown color on the marker. I then took it to the gas stove and burnt the dial slowly to finally end up with an aged effect that I felt looked good and satisfying. Finally sealed it with a good coat of matte clear lacquer.

The bracelet is a generic straight end link jubilee bracelet that came in at 18mm lug width size. Since the watch case was having 16mm lug width, I shaved off the end link, 1mm on each side and attached it to the watch case. The final result somehow makes me feel that the watch looks/resembles more like the black dial (gilt?) Rolex bubbleback. Now, over to the pics. Ive kept a stock custom dial next to the watch for reference. Apologies for the iphone pictures. Please do let me know on what you think about the watch.
