This is my franken HMT watch (purposefully converted to franken to support vintagizing project).

All the components of the watch are gen but from different watch models. I wanted to bring in a rusted/worn look on the dial. The hands are sort of like a dauphine hand and filled with lume aged along with the dial. The watch runs strong on a gen 17 jewel HMT cal.0231 manual wind movement. The strap is a handmade piece by one of friend here.

Being a novice, it took me a month to source the different parts, age the dial like how I wanted it to look and build the watch.

Do let me know on what you all think!!

Cheers!!
Russel

Manual wind Rolex Precision from the 40s. Found it recently in my grandfather's effects. Needs a lot of work and has not been serviced for ages, i gather. But it keeps time just fine - amazing. Tiny. Oh so tiny.

That's awesome. And the connection makes it even better. I have a similar Elgin that was my fathers'.

Nice! And that is a remarkable similarity indeed.

Does yours have the original bracelet? I gather mine's original leather wore out ages ago and my granddad had this flex bracelet fixed on.

Mine's dial is in rather poor shape, but that does somehow make one feel more connected through it to the ancient past. And its not like i am gonna sell it... so i guess one way forward is a hands-on, self-taught, multi-year restoration effort. Hey, thats an idea, what?!

Anyhoo, first step this weekend is a trip to the huge Rolex/Tudor HQ for an assessment (for which they charge an arm and a leg). Then onwards :)

Mine is all original including the band. It was bought by my mother for my father's college graduation in 1959. He wore it several years but he broke the crystal and the watch stopped running, hands were detached. My mother mentioned it one day and we found it in her jewelery box. A local jeweler put it back together and its been running for the past 20 years. That art deco style was popular back then. At the time a Rolex probably wasn't much more than the Elgin. Good luck with yours.

^ thanks NCRich. You are fortunate to have it in such good condition.

Am hoping to make it pristine and wearable again (am guessing my mom would end up wearing it, given the size).
