I collect knifes and my favorite mass produced are Mission and Microtech. Customs - Mad Dog has no equal.

I've had my CQC-10 in to Emerson for PM service and sharpening as it is my EDC. I enjoy the personal-level of customer service from smaller companies.
I was kind of surprised at the prices of the ZT Knives. They weren't that high when they first started.
It would be awesome if you could get into a Strider or an Emerson. If those are just not in the budget and you need something now, I would recommend Benchmade. I would avoid Red and stick with Blue or Black. But if you have time to increase your budget, its worth the wait.

fklaceration, thanks for the invite. I'll reach out if/when I get out that way. Ah, the magic of photoshop. :)

Mission really expensive!

$120 would be the best price for a strider

Have a look at spyderco. I'm a huge fan of their products. Just came on my pc to watch a demo on the spyderco knife sharpener I just got.

You could get a tenacious for like $30? G10, liner lock, etc.

Here's my latest, a Lum folding tanto sprint:

The tenacious is the bottom one.

PecMan, it doesnt really matter which one you buy because it will start you onto a slippery slope of knife collecting too. Just like every RWI member can't make do with just one watch, one knife is never enough.

I bought a Kershaw a few years ago with no intention of collecting and now i spend way too much on knives even more than i do on watches. I started collecting kershaw and now also collect Benchmade, Boker and Fallkniven.

Just like watches too, theres a huge replica community for knives. Ive never tried one though.

The M9 currently is made by Ontario Knife company i think, but i'm unfamiliar with that particular model. Ontario Knife company is a great fixed knife manufacturer that i'm very fond of and are good value too. Unfortunately with the M9 being a bayonet issue blade the hilt(front guard) is massive and limits the knifes real world use somewhat in my opinion. Also they are a bit of a use and abuse knife so are typically made of lesser steels like 420, and for me blade steel is a big factor when choosing my knives.

order a cold steel catalog, they will send you the entire DVD of them torture testing all of their products. Youll like that.

I like nutnfancy's knife reviews on youtube, you will enjoy watching those if you havent already.

I have one of the M9 bayonets. It's genuine military issue Lan-Cay. Our troops literally carry them. They are pretty cool, but its so big it really just sits in my drawer. The pommel attaches the knife to the end of an AR15. Sorry if i'm telling you what you already know.
