I literally just dropped off a 1966 Oyster Perpetual to get serviced about 20 minutes ago. The text and serial number are Typeface A. It's a 34mm case, so it's possible the size of the letters/numbers is different, but who knows. When I get it back I'll put calipers to it, but I bet someone here has a similar era gen case (in 36 mm no less) that they could measure for you, and do so faster than a couple of weeks.

How easy is it to engrave with the fixed bars in place? Better to sell that one to me and engrave the next one, surely 🤔 🤣
I hadn’t thought of that, the bars might interfere. It’s possible I might be able to engrave around them, but for a 5517 build, best practice would be to engrave before welding in the bars.

I haven’t done it much yet, I’d be afraid to make some horrific mistake on someone else’s watch, but would be glad to contribute something to such a gorgeous build. I have what I believe is the same machine that Rolex factory used, New Hermes drag engraver.

I actually have the engraver set up to do some cases tonight, I’ll post how they turn out, good or bad.

I’m not 100% confident that I have the sizing right. Mostly I’ve gone by screen shots and counted pixels, but if anyone knows the actual, correct size of the font between lugs, I’d love to confirm my “0.8-1mm” from my measurements. It would have to be a fraction of the size of the template, which is 5/8” iirc, and possibly in imperial, rather than metric, measurements.
Very interesting mate, I had a pentograph engraver machine for a while long ago I should have kept it. This service would come in handy for members on here. I’m sure someone would be able to help out with genuine font sizes. Good luck with it 👍🏻

I'm happy to help with any engraving and have done cases for many members. That said, can't do it with fixed bars in place.
Thanks mate I’ll probably get in touch when I get my MN74 7016 case project going. Im working off my 74 original late serial 8xxxxx 7016 case to make a daily wearer. Font may be the same but has tighter spacing than the earlier 7016’s.
