Here’s my V5.1 vs mech500 gen.
Is 10.2mm vs 9.8mm that big of a deal?
On the wrist 10.2mm vs 9.8mm is comparable to gen (if the bracelet is correctly adjusted)
The bigger deal is the rep dial. The gen dial is something else.
Because gen dial is on another planet.
And rep hands are crap
I do agree with you, the dial has tells and the hands are nonsense. So is the movement actually but then again this is a $400 rep.
To answer your mostly rhetorical questions on the thickness difference:
- It is subjective, some mind it, some don't. Some see it, some don't.
- If you are trying to prove that your watch is close to gen thickness, even on the wrist, no need to go further. I am also a gen 15400 owner and being a modder, I get to try on all the rep 15400s I could ever want lol. Objectively, the difference in thickness is NOT night and day for me between the V5 or whatever and the gen, but it is definitely discernible. Don't need pictures for that when you can see it in the flesh with your own eyes.
- The thickness of your watch does not look to be 10.2mm, and even if it is, there is still a marked difference between it and a thinned down 15400, or the gen. A quick measurement however will confirm it. I have a rep v5 with me now belonging to a member here, and I will take a measurement. It is from the latest batch.
- I do agree that the latest batches of the 15400 seem to be a little thinner, but by no means gen spec and still can be thinned to about 9.9mm.
