On the platinum version, what is that red ring around the top of the bezel? Is it just paint applied to the top?

doesnt look like it.... the gen has it as well :)
yes I know the gen has it too, but I'm just wondering what part is it that is red? Is it part of the bezel? Or is it a separate piece on top? If part of bezel is it painted/ printed on?

It is part of the bezel, the bezel is painted red there. It will chip and flake and break apart when the crystal is swapped.

ah!! Interesting, probably another way to make sure you don't open a gen. Now wondering whether the jf and noob tachy and dials are interchangeable....

Probably not directly interchangeable without further machining. Notice the different positions of the DW cut-out on both. The JF has a wider/thicker tachy and probably a different overall geometry.

ouch! thanks for the info Slaughterer. Guess no swiping crystal for this one then. ;-)

Have fun. The crystal is probably pushed into a chapter ring inserted into the mid-case, with the bezel compressed against it. You can swap crystals, but you might have to retouch the bezel where the lacquer falls apart. Happened to many owners of the Noob GP Plat.

The date window is the same, just the tachy is wider. But the internal dimensions might b different

The construction of JF and Noob ROOs is slightly different, but you could still interchange parts with further machining. As to which factory is superior, it is really a play of strengths and weaknesses, and what the individual owner values. We are here to analyse these differences and to think about what they mean to us. The idea that the factories read these threads and take up suggestions from them is partially an illusion. Very few people have a direct influence on the construction of these reps, and they are mostly isolated from us.

How reliable are the 7750's these days?
It's much improved although the verdict on the plate mod hasn't yet been established though I suspect won't be a problem, it's coming from J12.

The Z GP FC is a masterpiece I'm still not quite sure why it is being discussed as it isn't comparable with the J12. There really shouldn't be any discussion involving it especially given its limited availability. Those getting the J12 are getting a very nice build without question and shouldn't be comparing to something not available. I know I'm getting a J12 once I'm confident plate mod doesn't interfere with reliability. Do I wish I got a Zorro GP FC of course but such is life. Not going to compare apples vs oranges. Maybe the time has come for this thread to close. TT88 makes indisputable points, as he should being a respected mod. Just my opinion.

It seems that the J12 plat GP is the winner for now until the RG GP turns up. A great buy for the price. Cheers!
