My Observation of the Forged Carbon GP
Please be mindful that I still have not received my FCGP and following opinion is based on observing some QC photos and advertisement photos from TD.
We are very much aware of the obvious flaws of this particular version of the GP. The dial colour and the techy ring colour being so off that many of us are quite shocked it is not a prototype.
They are huge improvement from the previous noob version. The dial colour is deeper red and techy ring has the metallic effect. Besides the improvements the price is lower than the v2 which was very very close to $900. So we are seeing here a updated version at a cheaper price and that at least partially encouraged some of us to pull the trigger. (Since when was any rep close to perfect? except BB, FC44, etc etc etc...)
But to me, he biggest 'flaw' is the forged carbon case and bazel. They are completely different material at least to my eyes.
The Gen FCGP was infamous for the watch being actually eroded over time due to the FC's soft characteristic. It loses distinctive AP's sharp edge of the bazel and some even observed the material rubbing off by hand. It has very dull sheen and some of the used examples look quite beat up despite being well taken cared of. It was un-polishable as it's basically a 'eraser'. You rub it, it disappears. ;-p It's the reason some gen owners asked the AP to swap it with ceramic bazel when servicing.
On the other hand, our v3 uses FC case used in BB and FC44 with nice glossy finish and it is HARD! You can polish with all heart's content and all day long and it will remain hard, glossy and beautiful!
Imo, The look of the watch is completely different because of this issue more so than the dial and the techy ring.
I still like the overall design very much and i bought it for the purely design and colour combination value.
I think this watch should be considered a 'novelty FCGP homage' than the actual replication of the original FCGP, otherwise it will disappoint many of you.
Well, not many people know the particular model let alone the AP brand so that's added bonus for some of us too ;-D
A very persuasive point.... I for one would rather have a Lego than an eraser. [emoji1]
