IWC vs Ulysse Nardin

Hey guys, been researching 2 particular models a lot lately and cannot make up my mind. Both are fairly good reps for a good price of sub $220. The IWC big pilot 5002 and the UN MMD white dial bracelet.

The BP's dial has a tell and the UN also isn't a super rep like some of the pams that would need to be inspected and compared to gen for most to see it's a rep. The IWC is the better rep though in terms of accuracy.

The pro's of the UN are that it has a bracelet and white dial so it offers quite a contrast to my collection of dark dials with leather straps. The crystal looks invisible in a lot of the photo's and I hear it is waterproof so I could literally wear it when at the beach swimming, showering etc.

The cons are that it is not a well known brand so it almost seems like I'd be walking around with a beautiful no name watch on.

The IWC is possibly the best brand as it is subtle yet well known by most people that have some knowledge on watches. The reason I became interested in reps was to purchase fairly well known prestigious brands for a fraction of the cost and the IWC clearly ticks that block in bold. The UN not so much. 47mm Might be a bit on the large side on my sub 7' wrists so another issue.

I think I prefer the look of the UN but watch brand status/awareness is also important too me thus the dilemma.

Any suggestions?

They are cheap enough to buy both. I would think the the UN is the top choice though, Nardin is a very prestigious brand with some very stand out pieces. People may not know about UN as much as IWC but then again those people dont know much about watches. Nardin has collections like, the freak, Genghis khan tourbillon, blue tourbillon, a slew of minute repeaters and enamel painted pieces. Also he has the first manually wound cell phone that has a UN movement in it.

of course thats just my opinion though, its a very nice looking watch, hopefully they make it with the silver dial though

The white dimple UN rep is stunning, but the serial number plating on the side is wrong...it should be silver, not gold. The blue surf has it correct though...

I have the white dial and I like the contrasting serial number plate. UN is a niche brand so you're likely never going to be called out on the tell. To me the bigger tell is that the A/R is better on the gen, but not enough to tell unless you have the gen side by side.

I'd get it. Mine was my daily beater for a long time.... I think I'll wear it today.
