You need a better picture. Also, allow the balance wheel to stop spinning (run out of energy).

But from the little bit that I can see, I will say swiss.

Why are you asking?

I'm thinking about upgrading to a DSN fiddy, so I would have to sell my current one. I just one to make sure I have the correct information when/if I post it for sale.

I will try to get a better pic in a day or two when the movement stops.

Looks Asian to me, but to be perfectly honest, I'm no expert.

I'll say asian because the swan neck looks to be cosmetic and resembles the swan neck's on other asian movement panny's.

From what I've gathered the engraved bridges are going to be an asian add-on regardless of the swiss or asian origin of what's underneath.

There are about 4 visual tells, the most obvious is the ETA hairspring slug, it's a SWISS movement.
Wouldn't the two large cogs be bevelled if they were ETA parts?

I am glad that enzo is backing me up on this. I have been extenisvely researching the 6497 movements. In my first response I said it was Swiss. And I still stand by that. It is the incorrect series for this watch, but it is still Swiss.

Thanks for the detailed reply enzo and for giving me some peace of mind. This post will surely help me in identifying movements in the future.

Swiss 6497-1 and 6497-2

I've been re-reading all of the posts here and on RWG. Not to rehash things, but this movement started out as Swiss. I would bet a cup of coffee that under the balance wheel, we would find finely engraved ETA and 6497-1 markings. If the glued on plated were removed, one would find this movement to be no different than the unadorned 6497 movements. That said, there are different levels of fit/finish on this movement. As a frequent reader of Watchtime, you'll find nicely adorned 6497 watches and ones that probably worse esthetically than the Asian reps.

That said, I just pulled the casebacks off of all of my manual pams and I have 7 different movement at hand. All different and not even two alike

Swinese, Chi-Swiss and simply all Asian and all Swiss.

My pride and joy, a beatifully finished 6497-2 with true blued screws and the 6497-2 markings. I'll post pics tonight!!!!

Enjoy,

sherwin

I'm probably being too simplistic but doesnt a finely stamped ETA under balance indicate it is swiss?

Enzo has left the house. Shame really.

He'll surely be missed a lot, by many of us. :(

Expertize and experience he brought to this forum since its inception is simply irreplaceable and definitely not something that comes overnight.

Anyway, mate - it was a pleasure to deal with you in the past, both on and off the forum, and if you ever decide to come back you will always be more than welcome.
