I read in the 'other side' ..I hate when someone is so arrogant like this ...>>

Let's say you're the only one out of your local group of friends that owns a Panerai. If one of your buddies (who apparently knows nothing about timepieces) buys a fake Panerai, or considers buying a fake, because he likes the way yours real Panerai looks, do you have a right to be pissed?

I would have no problems if a friend bought a real one, but somehow the fake would irritate me. Thoughts? Opinions?

>> my opinions ...eat shit mate....I still wear my nice replicas but not fake..scumbag

I understand. Every fake sold devalues his gen. He's not right, but I do understand.

Possibly they would be pissed because they made a significant investment and you got the same thing for virtually nothing. I really think that even if I had the cash, I still wouldn't buy a gen. I believe they are way overpriced. When you buy a Pam or Breitling or whatever you are buying exclusivity. To me exclusivity can always be found at a much lower cost.

This is why the guy is pissed off. Your rep is so good, his gen is worth less because of it. :D

If one of my friends wants to go out and buy a gen because he likes my rep, I have no problem with that! [smilie=tard.gif]

gen vs rep

I've thought about this a bit . . . i don't think i'd be literally pissed, but when you have a gen you definately realize the diminished value caused by nice reps that just anyone can have.

who in their right mind would give a ratsizzle?

you want gen, buy gen
you want rep, buy rep...

guy should be made to stand on street corner and criticize anyone
that does not meet his standards of dress... for months..
paying kids to bring him fast foods, and waiting until way dark of
night to take a dump in a storm drain..

That is so... wrong!

However, back to the subject at hand.

I too have thought about this. I guess the question here is why did he buy the GEN pam? Not to impress people with a fine timepiece but to impress people with the PRICE of said timepiece. Most of us here purchase the timepieces because we like the look, the feel of craftsmanship of the watchmakers art, regardless of weather the watchmaker is in Geniva, Frankfurt, London, Shanghai or Bangcock ( God, I love that one, it must be the inmature boy in me)!

I find alot of the more well to do like the fact that their money allows frivilous expensive purchases, such as timepieces and at such exclucive prices that the "common" man could not, on a practical basis, even consider such a purchase.
When you purchase a Rep, you have effectivly "broken down the gate" of his/her gated community, hence the attitude "How dare you wear a Rep".

If I buy a TT Sub rep, have I diminished the value of the original? No. At $120.00 I can afford to wear a very nice replica of an $8,000.00 watch. If the Rep was not available would I save for the Gen? Hell no! Timex all the way baby!!

With proper maintance and care my Rep's will last long enough to pass on to my kids, and that is what I consider quality, and that is why I purchase Rep's. Not to impress, but to marvel at the watchmakers art.

The artist that copied the Mona Lisa so perfect that the experts could not tell the difference was labeled a "counterfiter" I say "nope, he was an artist, he just didn't have a chance to paint her FIRST".

All the above IMHO

Bullcrap. If he were an artist, he would do something original. I can copy art, it's not that hard, but there's no way I'd consider myself as good as Da Vinci if I produced a perfect replica of one of his pieces.

Artists innovate. Copying isn't innovation.

ps. Yes, I'm in IT, but my qualifications are in art and art history. Long story.

I probably won't care much about my friend buying a rep which looks exactly the same as my gen.

If he really is my true friend, I guess he won't be that stupid to buy the exact same model. :x

if i have the gen:
i'd break his balls about having the rep, but would still have the confidence and security of knowing that mine is the real deal.

if i have the rep:
i'd break the gen owner's balls about how i spent a couple of hundred on the watch and made few extra mortgage payments or picked up some stock with the remainder. or in my case, i'd mention how i bought 10 other reps as well.

either way, i'm breaking stones
