Is there a good PAM 104 Rep?

I Really, Really, want a Luminor Marina Automatic 104.

Does anyone make a Rep, or do I have to shell out for the real thing. It is close to X-mas so I could buy myself an early present, but in all reality, I would rather have a rep if it is decent. If anyone has one of these I would love to see some pics. I might even have a couple reps I might be willing to trade for, who knows!

I have a 104 rep, and am willing to part with it. I will send you a PM...

So far, the 104 reps with the Asian 7750 are good reps. Their "only" flaws are the crown, lume, and date (both the datewheel font and cyclops) -- nothing that a few good moddings can't take care of.

But I also have reliable news that on the new year very good reps of the 104 (as well as of other auto + date PAMs) are going to make their appearance.

well looks like i will wait for that. Does anyone know which PAM's are polished? I mean really polished, case, bezel... everything?

Also who knows what i should use to polish my fiddy bezel. I stared wearing it a lot more and the bezel has a couple little swirls in it. I really want it to look like a mirror, but i don't want to mess up the crystal.

Most of the Luminors prior to G/H series are full polished (except for the CG lever). If you back to pre-A series they have brushed CGs, but A-F series are typically all polished.

Is your Fiddy crystal sapphire or mineral? You should be able to use a cape cod cloth to polish your Fiddy bezel without damaging the crystal at all.

It is sapphire... I wasn't sure if the cape cod would get it polished enough. Would that work on my BCE? It has a few desk diving marks on it.

Yep, cape cod is the ticket for any polished case parts...

That 104 would be excellent... if only it had the "L SWISS MADE L" text not so close to the "6". To me, a giveout @ 288 bucks. The dial of Joshua's cheaper version (less than $120, if I correctly remember), now retired, was way better.

Why did not they just use that dial, with this new -- really improved -- date+cyclops set???

Well, mine was actually a rhetorical question :D

Anyway, I know for sure that another version is near to come.

Well, it's actually missing the open 6 too, and that to me would be a bigger flaw than any other current flaw.

The one thing that separates the 104 from all the other look-a-like pam autos IS the open 6 dial, having said that, the date mag/font look pretty good on the new ones that just came out.

The 104 is supposed to be Panerai's most historic looking model of the contemporary line, and therefore has the open 6 dial.

The 104 has open "6" in the F-G-H series (2003-4-5), close "6" in the E and I series and onwards ((2002, 2006-). I suppose you did not download my PAM spreadsheet. :D

Moreover, I just got info that the latest series (J series, 2007), has the "L SWISS MADE L" text placed very close to the "6", like the new Josh's and Andrew's 104.

So it seems that this new rep is VERY close to 100%...

The problem is now in the caseback. It states:

OP 6553 - Correct on the 104.
BB1028623 - Incorrect. That is a number from 2001, when the 104 was far from seeing the light. Anything above 123xxxx would be correct.
I0512/1500 - Doubly incorrect. The "I" series does not match the location of the "L SWISS MADE L" text. And the millesimation of the 104 on the I series was 4000 pieces (like on the J series too). J0512/4000 would be correct.

You are welcome.

I also have to add that two other minor issues are about the number of teeth of the crown (they seems a little too few), and the room between the crown and the crown guard (a little too large).

In any case, those issues -- like the numbers on the caseback -- are for complete PAM nuts only. The overall rating of this new rep still is: "gorgeous".

Just, not 100% yet...

I like to have PAMs as perfect as I can within reason. I never expect my reps to hold up against a gen that someone has in their hand. I just want to them to hold up against what people remember the gen to look like. I doubt someone has all the numbers etc. memorized. If they do, I'm sure there is some other tell they'll find first about the rep.

Honestly, hard to find such a tell on these new reps! [smilie=love4.gif]

A very interesting exception (thanks for the info!), as also the OP6630 number on the back is atypical to an I series, it would make a better fit on H series.

Possibly a watch assembled using a dial and case residual from 2005?... The 604/4000 millesimation number is not a too high one...
