Hi,
I received a quartz watch from a dealer (I don't want to name him for the moment) and this watch is losing 5 to 10 in one day.
The dealer said to me : "It normally should keep good time within 5 minutes on a day. Maybe the battery is weak or due to customs clearance and they passed the package through thick magnetic fields."

Did you ever hear kind of issue ?

Quartz movement loosing a few seconds a day would be bad...

My seiko Sportura has never been more then a second off....months at a time...

i'd look into a new battery, there also could be more resistance depending on it's mechanical quality

Definetly have the battery replaced.
If you are out by more than 2 seconds in 24 hours, you have a serious problem.
What quartz rep is it?
Do you know the movement brand/model?

not sure about the magnetic fields I wouldn't think that would off set the time keeping accuracy that much, but you never know.

you could take it to get de-Magnetized make sure it's safe for that watch first. I've never needed to do that.

That sounds very fishy...
Change battery, and if the watch still looses more time... contact the dealer and get a new one.

Yannou, what do you think of this watch? Do you have the black, orange markings model? I've been thinking about this one, and would be interested in your opinion of it. The movement issue is a little concerning. Please let us know how this comes out- if it is a good outcome, there may be a couple of sales coming...

A demagnetizer produces a VERY strong electromagnetic field, so by the dealers logic, if you demag it it will soon be showing yesterday's time.

I got a Seiko 200MM titanium in the mail new, running 30 seconds fast per day. It is a mechanical.

My local watchsmith demagnatized it and it is now within a few seconds a day.

I guess it happened in shipping, but it was brand new and was definitely way off due to magnetic issues.
