My phone got water damage due to an heavy rain. Call apple to review my case to replace the malfunctioned phone and yet received top notch service and an exemption for an one to one exchange (the phone is 4 months at that time). And this is what i call service.

And if number of cores or rams make you jizz, go ahead. It doesn't matter to me. As long as my apps can run smooth and responsive.

I can second that. My wifes ip5 had problems with the display. She went to the local apple superstore. She told them the problem - they did'nt even look at it. Just said: Here's your new one.

Had no service needed for andorid phones yet though.

I'm not an apple fan. iPhone 5 is my first apple phone and got force to use it because of my work. I'm a UX developer for smartphone just incase it matters to you.

And the after service of apple, just blew me away.

They are both great phones. I've have a Note II, had an S3, a 4S, and the current BB Bold. My wife has a 5 and I honestly prefer the S3 and Note II. The Galaxy is slightly rougher around the edges. Most carriers have a trial period, so I'd say get either one and if you hate it, the other one is the right phone for you. I have also easily broken iPhones and S3 by dropping the phone, so don't pick either for "toughness."

You will need the Nokia for toughness... :)

Apple are on the slide, just look at the drop in stock value. Steve Jobs would never have allowed an extra row of icons on a front end way past its sell by date to masquerade as cutting edge innovation. Apple are slightly taking the piss with the 5 and might be lining themselves up for a kicking if the next phone is the usual S badged gap filler. I say this as an iphone user but one who doesn't wear the rose tinted glasses of the fan boys.

My daughter has been fully assimilated into the Apple collective, she loves the brand because of its association with quality engineering, sublime design and products that have been thought through properly, generally a correct assumption. But even she is not impressed by the 5. Seems Apple are slowly becoming an also ran in Samsung and HTC's race for technical dominance. It will take something REALLY special from Apple to get back on top but for now Android phones rule.

S3 overpriced  It costs $244 to make an S4 http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_s4_manufacturing_cost_estimated_at_244-news-5732.php

and $207 to make and iPhone 5 http://www.isuppli.com/Teardowns/News/pages/iPhone5-Carries-$199-BOM-Virtual-Teardown-Reveals.aspx

And then Apple charges you a fee even to set your time clock.

Have to take into account how much they spend on the Operating System (iOS) unlike android which is open source (read free) and the after sales service. The one to one exchange policy? You don't have to make a 2nd trip to collect your phone after you send it for service. Anyway, this argument will never end.

Firefox Phone is out! Worth a look!

I bet their R&D development team requires a ton of money to figure out which features to steal from Android for their next OS version. But I guess if they get a patent for it it's OK cause legally they invented it, even if other companies did it years before.

Actually Samsung provided me with great customer service as well. My laptop was a year out of warranty (it was 3 years old, the laptop I had before my Macbook) and there was something wrong with the display. I expected a 100-150 repair cost.
But it turned out it was the mother board and they just replaced it for free.

Customer service really depends on the agent. Except for legal things like a defective phone, any company will replace your phone immediately if its defective (someone raised an example with the defective iPhone)

When I had an iPhone 4, I also had it water damaged (yes using it in the rain as well) and they charged me 180 Aus Dollars because the warranty doesn't cover water damage.

With your comment about R&D, Samsung Electronics (so not including their fridges, etc dept) they spend A LOT more than Apple

Bad news gentleman. Im afraid I'm might not receive the s4 on saturday. As 25 april 10am we had to make an appointment but i didn't do so as during the point of time i was in school and by the time i was home, i receive a message from the service provider that: "Thank you for your interest on the Samsung GALAXY S4 With LTE. We are sorry if you were unable to book an appointment for the purchase at the launch event. The response was overwhelming and all appointment slots have been filled. We will keep you posted soon on the next availability." So bad luck :(..

Just wait for the Galaxy Note 3. :D

They start out huge and then you wish they were just a tad bigger. But it all boils down to what you want to do with the phone.

The discussion about battery drain on androids doesn't matter since the first thing you do is order 6 extra batteries from China for $50 and you can talk all week long!

Got my S4 yesterday and must say this is a real fast phone compared to my old HTC HD Desire. Only thing I don´t like is the cheap plastic back cover (looks better than it feels though). The rest is superb quality and features.

Simply no comparison in terms of technical ability, features, diversity of options and freedom of use.
I could go on for days. But you would stick to ios because you are simply content with it (fair enough), scared of anything else, or stuck in a place without wanting to hear what else is available.

Options - HTC one or s4,flagships. Xperia z even. Or want something cheaper? Dozens of options.

Freedom of use - yes, it's my device and I customise it to how I like. I'm not assaulted with a barrage of icons in my face that I am not use or want to confront.
I plug into a computer and all files are accessible (except system files), I drag and drop any files into and out of it. With some phones offering expandable memory slots.

Majority of devices using the micro usb

Bigger, better screens, more power. Even things like haptic feedback with keyboard.

Or don't like the keyboard? Download another.
Don't like the sms app? Download another dozen to choose from.

A back button for ease of navigation, long press on items or spaces even.
Removable batteries...

The apple is a good device. But does not deserve the attention it gets, the hype nor the money.
Known to not really innovate themselves but taking ideas and popularising them.

It's good still. But don't diss the rest.

Lucky for those with S3, you can upgrade your S3 to S4. Follow this link

Not as lucky as I was with the iPhone 4 to the 4S...do nothing.

+1.

This thread is to help the OP choose a phone, not forcing your opinion on others.

Not 'iPhone is best in every single way, S4 is shit in every single way.'

My advice is go S4 and add an extended battery to it. Yes, you sacrifice in thickness but it will triple the runtime on a charge. The screen is gorgeous especially if ur into games and video.

Search the market for unbranded android phone and compare the prices and you know what I mean. See the finishing on an apple product and compare with galaxy. Take a look at the glass and metal cross over at the back of the iPhone 5. No gap. The finishing is superb. Not many phone company will pay attention to these fine details.

:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

Really?

The finishing is superb? yes it is. Wait until you have to make an insurance claim on it.

the iphone... I mean "cult phone" is a complete sham.

You guys remember the first I phone? can you tell me how much has changed since it?

IOS is a solid OS... boring as hell though.

I love macs, have 3 of them. Refuse to buy another Iphone though.

and as far as customer service.... Samsung takes it...any day.
