Impressive Yet Disappointing Aquanaut; All About the Movement

I am glad to have found RWI, as I am a long-time watch enthusiast, and I am draw to replicas by the functionality like other replica luxury items cannot compete with. Like some of you, I own a few authentic luxury watches, but do not find it affordable or practical to purchase a large collection of luxury watches or a watch costing a year's salary; thus replicas fill that void.

Through RWI's trusted dealer list I recently purchased a rep Patek Philippe Aquanaut, and I am impressed with it's quality face, authentic crystal, and real-feel. Altogether, the markings are very accurate, but the exhibition back is dead giveaway. Obviously this is not the Paket Philippe 5960 automatic movement.

However, I did choose the swiss ETA movement; knowing full-doubt this was probably still not a swiss movement. The movement is a dead-wringer for a ETA 2436-2 movement (manufactured in three grades each with their own individual accuracies). However, I am sure the movement in the watch is a Chinese copy of the swiss ETA 2436-2, and seems to be less accurate.

The problem with my new watch is not so much even the appearance of the 2436-2 type movement, but the accuracy. A standard 2436 should be within +/-10 sec. per day, but this watch is like + 30 sec. a day. I don't know what to do. Option A, I can adjust the watch, as the movement does have an adjustment screw, or another option I have is to purchase an authentic ETA 2426-2 movement with an Elaborated or Top movement for installation. For now I will probably try to adjust the piece, as it is nicely made, but the movement seems to be a disappointment.

I have included two pics of my Aquanaut rep, and one pic of a standard ETA 2436-2 movement.

Wow...+30 a day? Must keep you up at night huh? lol...
Nice watch, and yeah, most likely (99.9%) a Chinese Movement.

Being a GRUEN movement, I believe that the longer you look at it you will find yourself losing touch with time anyway - the effect is known as the GRUEN TRANSFER

:D

Gruen nonetheless, it probably has a step up on some quality reps. I would still take the Aquanaut rep over the Gruen, but the Gruen is probably more accurate at current. Perhaps a quick trip to a reputable jeweler to adjust the timing screw can at least satisfy me. I have a vintage Omega Deville from 1977 that was never serviced and still keeps better time.

Agree - a slight adjustment with the right tools and it will be joy for the long term ... I am not as stringent as you but I get the idea that a watch should be accurate in both appearance and timekeeping.

Personally, I feel that a watch that doesn't keep reasonably accurate time is not a watch .... it just looks like one

I find it amusing that they have gone to the trouble to replicate the Patek battery change vinyl sticker, and placed it on an automatic watch...

Did you get the replica box set as well? How much did that cost?

If you got the clone 2836 movement, it is arguably better than the "Swiss" movement you might have received.
There is virtually no difference in the movement, and you should be able to adjust it for better accuracy.
But honestly, 10 sec a day is not much.

My advice....

Get into this hobby more, buy more watches then you'll never notice 30 seconds a day because you'll be wearing the watch once a week....

From your photos, my guess is that the movement is the Sellita SW220-1, which is the same movement used in the 1:1 Nautilus. It is a genuine Swiss movement, just poorly regulated.

I think your expectations of a rep are a bit high. Have it serviced it it's bothering you. But honestly, I don't expect COSC specs, true swiss movements ( probably asian ) or 1:1 claims to always ring true. It's hit or miss and comes with the territory. Your name sums it up : "CheepstuffromChina"
